Mozart componeerde het beroemde motet Ave Verum Corpus in 1791, tijdens zijn laatste levensjaar. Hij schreef het voor Anton Stoll, die leraar en koordirigent was in Baden (nabij Wenen). Hoewel het een van Mozarts kortste compositiesbetreft, wordt dit motet beschouwd als een van zijn beste werken en wordt het wereldwijd veelvuldig uitgevoerd.
