Designed to open a Christmas concert, A Christmas Herald starts with a fanfare that introduces a lyrical theme, which eventually turns out to be a descant to Hark, the Herald Angels Sing, which is subsequently introduced by trombones and euphoniums. The famous carol then gradually transforms back into the fanfare, which closes the work as it began.

A Christmas Herald, een openingswerk voor een kerstconcert, begint met een proclamerende fanfare. Deze fanfare introduceert een lyrisch thema, dat uiteindelijk uitmondt in een discant over Hark, the Herald Angels Sing,een melodie die achtereenvolgens wordt gepresenteerd door de trombones en euphoniums. De beroemde carol gaat vervolgens langzaam weer over in de fanfare, waarmee het werk eindigt zoals het begon.

A Christmas Herald beginnt mit einer Signalfanfare; diese stellt ein lyrisches Thema vor, das sich bald als Diskant zu Hark, the Herald Angels Sing herausstellt, welches anschließend von Posaunen und Euphonien präsentiert wird. Dann verwandelt sich das berühmte Weihnachtslied schrittweise zurück in die Fanfare, die das Werk so beendet, wie es begann. Eine wunderbare Eröffnung für ein Weihnachtskonzert!

A Christmas Herald (“Le Messager de Noël”) débute avec une fanfare majestueuse qui cède sa place l’exposition d’un thème lyrique qui forme un contrechant au noël Hark, the Herald Angels Sing (Écoutez le chant des Anges) introduit par les trombones et l’euphonium. La mélodie de ce célèbre chant de noël revient progressivement vers la fanfare initiale qui clôt l’œuvre sur un ton toujours aussi solennel.

The Spirit of Christmas is a medley of charming Christmas carols, all with an international character. The medley consists of the following five carols: Away in a Manger - The First Noel - It Came Upon the Midnight Clear - O Come, All YeFaithful and Hark! The Herald Angels Sing. A four-part choir part in English has been added which can be used ad lib. or you can also opt for singing the melody line only, for example with a soloist and/or the congregation. The arrangementis not too high pitched so that the work can also be used in combination with a children's or High School choir.

The Spirit of Christmas is een medley bestaande uit Away in a Manger - The First Noel - It Came Upon the Midnight Clear - O Come, All Ye Faithful en Hark! The Herald Angels Sing. Er is ook een optionele 4-stemmige koorpartijbeschikbaar, maar ook als u enkel eenstemmig de melodie wil zingen, kan dit perfect. De moeilijkheidsgraad en omvang laat toe deze prachtige medley met een schoolkoor of kinderkoor te brengen.

Weihnachtslieder aus der ganzen Welt. Dieses Arrangement von Jacob de Haan kann mit einem gemischten Chor oder einem Kinderchor aufgeführt werden. Der Gesang kann aber auch von einem Solisten oder einer kleinen Gruppe Sänger übernommen werden.

Vous retrouverez Away in a Manger, The First Noel (Aujourd'hui, le Roi des Cieux), It Came Upon A Midnight Clear, O Come,All Ye Faithful (Adeste Fideles) et Hark! The Herald Angels Sing (Écoutez, le chant des Anges). Cet arrangement peut être interprété avec un Chœur mixte quatre voix (ad lib.), mais il est également possible de fairechanter la ligne mélodique seule par un soliste (avec micro) et/ou par l'assistance. Dans la mesure où l'arrangement n'évolue pas dans des registres aigus inaccessibles, il peut aussi être accompagné par un Chœurd'enfants. Whereas ‘Auld Lang Syne’ may be considered the best-known Scottish song ever, yet at the same time it is an obscure one, for there are but few people who know the complete text by heart.
After the familiar ‘Should auld acquaintance be forgot .....‘ many people take their refuge to lyrics like ‘rum tee dum ta dee ..... lah, lah, lah ........... for auld lang syne’.
Even in Scotland only a handful of persons know the entire text and are able to give a correct rendering of it.
The current lyrics have been attributed to the Scottish poet Robert Burns. Burns, however, he did not write the whole poem : after he had heard an old man sing the centuries-old Scotchballad, he wrote it down and added a number of stanzas (1788).
Historical research teaches us that the ballad served many purposes, both political and religious.
Nowadays, ‘Auld Lang Syne’ is sung as a Christmas Carol and it is also sung on New Year’s Eve at the turning of the year. Apart from that, though, the song is also sung on many other occasions sometimes with different lyrics, which usually have Love, Friendship and/or Parting as their themes, as these go well with the fascinating melody.

In this arrangement a low-sounding solo instrument is central. The harmonization in the accompaniment fits in perfectly with the sentiments this song will evoke.

Misschien wel het meest bekende Schotse lied, maar tegelijkertijd ook het minst bekende, er zijn er maar weinig mensen die de tekst mee kunnen zingen.
Na het bekende ‘Should auld acquaintaintance be forgot and .....‘ vervallenvelen in ‘rum tee dum ta dee ..... lah, lah, lah ........... for auld lang syne’.
Zelfs in Schotland is maar een enkeling in staat de tekst correct weer te geven.
De huidige versie wordt toegeschreven aan de Schotse dichterRobert Burns. Burns heeft echter niet de hele tekst gemaakt.
Toen hij de eeuwen oude Schotse ballade door een oude man hoorde zingen, heeft hij enkele verzen toegevoegd (1788).
Historisch onderzoek leert dat de ballade voorveel doeleinden gebruikt werd, voor politieke als ook religieuze doelen.
Tegenwoordig wordt ‘Auld Lang Syne’ gebruikt als Christmas Carol en wordt het gezongen tijdens de jaarwisseling op oudejaarsavond.Het lied, soms meteen andere tekst, wordt echter op veel meer plaatsen gebruikt.
Liefde, Vriendschap en Afscheid zijn dan meestal de sentimenten die gecombineerd worden met de meeslepende melodie.

In dit arrangement staat een ‘laag’ solo-instrumentcentraal.
De harmonisatie in de begeleiding sluit naadloos aan bij deze gevoelens die dit lied oproepen.
