Marcel Olm was born in Mataró (Barcelona) on February 12, 1932. He studied piano with María Canela at the Liceu Conservatory of Barcelona, as well as harmony and composition with Cristobal Taltavull (Barcelona). He has recorded for Radio National de España and Catalunya Música and is a member of the Associació Catalana de Compositors. Tres Preludis Subtils is a piece that is no more than emotional and personal sensations transmitted to a pentagram with the maximum honesty. With my plain, own language. Fransesc Taverna-Bech, a composer, wrote in a review that my aim is to be loyal to my deep thoughts. He is right. He agrees with the piano placer Angles Presutto, who wrote to me from Lisbon: Your works have interest, defined in an intimate style, naked of outer appearance. I try to say something that makes sense; I have no intention of giving it effects to make it avant-garde.

The present collection consists of twelve of La Hache’s piano works, several of which are settings of airs that were well-known popularly at the time of composition. Unlike New Orleans native Louis Moreau Gottschalk, who made his career abroad and sided with the Union during the War Between the States, La Hache remained a loyal resident of his adopted city and was a staunch Confederate. Several of the pieces in the present collection were dedicated to units who were fighting for the Confederacy during the War, and all reflect his love of the South and of Southern culture

This composition is based on the life of the German cavalry general Hans Michael Elias von Obentraut (1574-1625), who was known for his nerve, loyalty and courage. The figure Van Obentraut is closely connected to the town of Seelze, where he died a heroic death and where a monument was erected in his honor. The work consists of four movements in which various aspects of this historical figure are featured. What is extra special about this work is the fact that its firs movement (Hymn for a Hero) had been made available as an easy version for flexible band. This makes it possible for a youth of beginner band to play along with a band of adults or advanced players. This hymn can also be played as a separate piece.
