For Cityscapes, the composer used the metropolis of New York, the largest city of the United States, as a source of inspiration. The first movement mirrors the skyline of the ‘Big Apple’. In movement two, Central Park is introduced and in the closing movement of this triptych, the ever-sparkling Manhattan, known for its many skyscrapers, and its financial centre Wall Street, is the focal point. Not only are the busy city traffic and the chaotic hustle and bustle expressed in the music, but also the impressive buildings, including the famous Empire State Building. Cityscapes (“Paysages urbainsâ€) est une œuvre inspirée d’une série d’impressions et de paysages de la métropole de New York, la plus grande ville des États-Unis.Dans le premier mouvement, l’impressionnante ligne d’horizon de « La Grosse Pomme » s’étire devant nous. Manhattan, le pont de Brooklyn et la Statue de la Liberté sont l’essence du thème principal. Les dernières mesures de ce premier mouvement font référence la célèbre Symphonie n° 9 dite « du Nouveau Monde » que le compositeur tchèque Antón Dvorák composa lors d’un séjour New York.Le second mouvement est consacré Central Park, l’immense parc new-yorkais construit au XIXe siècle, etdestiné aux loisirs, au divertissement et la relaxation. Plusieurs b timents célèbres, tels que le Metropolitan Museum of Art, jalonnent Central Park.Le troisième et dernier mouvement de ce triptyque dépeint l’esprit bouillonnant de Manhattan, quartier célèbre pour abriter d’impressionnants gratte-ciel et la Bourse de Wall Street. La musique palpite au rythme du trafic intense et suit le tourbillon d’activité tumultueux. Elle décrit également les immenses buildings comme l'Empire State Building.

In this composition William Vean takes you on a journey through the fascinating and exciting world of animals. Apart from it being a composition filled with special effects, Animal Kingdom contains many educational elements, such as playing inswing (triplets feeling), chromatics, flutter tonguing, gypsy tuning, varying keys, and, of course, dynamics and articulation. The melodic lines occur in all four voices, as well as in all percussion parts, providing each musician with theopportunity to play a solo or to accompany. Highly recommended for your youth band! William Vean is an educational composer. He knows how to musically shape the special elements from our daily lives. His music is therefore veryexpressive, containing creative solutions to possible problems. Special ways of playing make his music particularly interesting for the winds, but the percussion section is also featured in his special effects. The world of the animalsalways plays on ones imagination. In Animal Kingdom, William Vean has portrayed a number of animals in a special manner: Kevin Kangaroo - The jumping character of this animal can be heard in different voices. The swing style alsoemphasizes the characteristic movements of the kangaroo. Playing in swing style can be practised by using scales. Eddy Elephant - For some of his smaller fellow fauna friends this can be quite an ordeal, but for Eduard (Eddy for friendsand intimates) it is his daily walk. Baldrick Bat - Baldrick the Bat is a mysterious character. This can be heard in the fast moving valves and keys, accompanied by special effects in the percussion section. Curtis Camel - Curtisthe Camel trudges across the desert, feeling bored. The idea that the horizon will never change does not affect him anymore. He has accepted his fate. The distinctive tones from the gypsy scale provide the suitable oriental sounds. BettyButterfly - Butterfly Betty elegantly, and without worries, flutters from flower to flower in the garden. Her motto: Carpe Diem (Seize the Day). Betty is a one-day butterfly. Marvin Monkey - A swing monkey stirs up the feelings. Evenmembers of the orchestra will look like real monkeys. How about your audience? Each part has its own difficulties and challenges. Important in the first part is playing in swing (triplets feeling). This can be practised usingscales. In the second part ensemble playing and balance are important. In Baldrick additional information on the effects that have to be played might be useful. New sounds are, of course, welcome. Curtis the Camel introduces thegypsy scale. Additional explanation of the use of the scale might be useful. Key changes are interesting in this part. A slight accent on the first beat of the bar will add to the charm of this part. Marvin the Monkey brings back the swingrhythm that was introduced in the first part, alternated by a straight part with attention to chromatics and articulation. A story teller will definitely be an asset when performing this composition.William Vean neemt u mee in de fascinerende en verrassende wereld van het dierenrijk. Naast leuke speelmuziek vol ''special effects'', is deze compositie zeer educatief van opzet. Als interessant inhoudelijke zaken komenonder andere aan de orde - het in swing spelen (triolen feeling), chromatiek, flatterzunge, zigeunertoonsoort, afwisselende maatsoorten en natuurlijk dynamiek en articulatie. Tevens lopen de melodielijnen zowel door alle 4 destemmen als alle percussie partijen, zodat iedere muzikant de gelegenheid krijgt om te soleren dan wel te begeleiden. Een aanrader voor uw jeugdorkest! De dierenwereld spreekt muzikaal gezien altijd tot de verbeelding.William Vean heeft op bijzondere wijze een aantal dieren neergezet. De componist weet op een bijzondere wijze elementen uit het dagelijkse leven muzikaal vorm te geven. Zijn muziek is daarom erg beeldend, de problemen aanwijsbaarmaar de oplossingen zijn creatief. Voor blazers bijzonder interessant door de bijzondere speelmanieren maar het slagwerk is ook bedeeld met een aantal 'special effects'. Kevin Kangaroo - Het springerige karakterwordt door verschillende stemmen neergezet. De swingende speelstijl benadrukt de karakteristieke bewegingen van de kangoeroe. Let op de specifieke swingstijl. Heel goed te oefenen met toonladders. Eddy Elephant - Voor sommigekleinere faunagenoten elke keer weer een beproeving maar voor Eduard (Eddy voor vrienden en intimi) is dit zijn dagelijkse wandelingetje. Giro 224544 t.b.v. de geleden schade. Baldrick Bat - De vleermuis Baldrick is eenmysterieus type. Dat mysterieuze aspect wordt auditief weergegeven door het snel indrukken van ventielen en kleppen, ondersteund door slagwerkeffecten. Curtis Camel - De kameel Curtis hobbelt verveeld door de woestijn.

Have Mercy, Lord from J.S. Bach’s St Matthew Passion is one of the most beautiful arias from the baroque period. In Philip Sparke’s arrangement, it is envisaged that the soloists stand together as a group stage right, while the other musicians stand behind to form the tutti group. This piece is easily playable for both the soloists and the band, and will create a beautiful moment of reflection whether performed on the concert stage or in a church.Erbarme dich, mein Gott uit de Matthäuspassion van J.S. Bach is een van de mooiste aria's uit de barok. Bij dit arrangement van Philip Sparke is het de bedoeling dat de solisten bij elkaar gaan staan, terwijl de andere muzikanten zich hierachter formeren en de tutti groep vormen. Gemakkelijk speelbaar voor solisten en orkest is dit werk een mooi moment van bezinning op het podium of in een kerk… Have Mercy, Lord (Erbarme dich, mein Gott) aus Johann Sebastian Bachs Matthäuspassion ist eine der schönsten Arien des Barock. Philip Sparkes Arrangement sieht vor, dass die Solisten sich vorn auf der Bühne gruppieren und das Orchester als Tutti-Gruppe dahinter stehend spielt. Mit diesem sowohl für die Solisten als auch die übrigen Musiker sehr zugänglichen Stück kreieren Sie einen meditativen Moment - auf der Konzertbühne oder in einer Kirche.Have Mercy, Lord de la Passion selon St Matthieu de J.S. Bach est l’un des airs les plus beaux du baroque. Dans son arrangement Philip Sparke a prévu que les solistes soient debout en groupe du côté droit du podium, tandis que le reste des musiciens soit debout derrière en formant un groupe tutti. Ce morceau est facile jouer pour les solistes et le reste de l’ensemble, et va créer un beau moment de réflexion si joué dans une salle de concert ou une église.

This flexible piece in 4 parts was written by Jacob de Haan as a ‘theme tune’ for the Yamaha teaching method seminars in Germany. The solemn and dignified hymn-like melody will add a touch ofgrandeur to any performance. Its simplicity and rich harmonies suggest overtones of Land of Hope and Glory and this would be a good item to bring a deep and uplifting sense of occasion to your concert. Vanuit zijn didactische ervaring met het componeren van eenvoudige muziek voor variabele bezettingen gaf de Nederlandse componist Jacob de Haan in 2004 een workshop tijdens het Yamaha Bläserklassen Kongress in Oberursel (bij het DuitseFrankfurt). Op verzoek van Wolfgang Feuerborn, leider en initiator van het project, schreef Jacob de Haan speciaal voor deze seminars een hymne. Hij noemde het stuk - heel toepasselijk - The Seminar Hymn. Dit werk isleerzaam en motiverend voor jonge muzikanten - en een plezier om naar te luisteren.Aufgrund seiner didaktischen Erfahrungen im Komponieren von leichter Musik für variable Besetzungen hielt der holländische Komponist Jacob de Haan im Rahmen des Yamaha BläserKlassen-Kongresses in Oberursel 2004 einen Lehrgang ab. Auf Wunsch von Wolfgang Feuerborn, dem Leiter und Initiator des Projekts, schrieb Jacob de Haan speziell für dieses Seminar eine Hymne. Er nannte das Stück - passenderweise - The Seminar Hymn. Dieses Werk vermittelt geschickt wertvolles Lehrmaterial für junge Musiker mit viel Motivation und Spielfreude, die sich auch aufs Publikum übertragen wird.La Yamaha BläserKlasse est un projet développé par Yamaha en partenariat avec le système éducatif allemand. Ce concept permet d’enseigner la musique d’ensemble l’école primaire (et premier cycle secondaire). Bénéficiant d’une riche expérience dans la composition d’œuvres pédagogiques instrumentation variable, Jacob de Haan compose un hymne, spécialement pour les séminaires d’application durant lesquels les enseignants sont formés cette nouvelle manière d’apprendre la musique.
