Der erste Satz des Klarinettenkonzerts, das Allegro, ist kühn und brilliant in seinen technischen Anforderungen in den schnellen Passagen und flüssig und ausdrucksvoll in den lyrischen Abschnitten. Er ist eine spannende Herausforderung für Klarinettisten von heut und war sehr wahrscheinlich ein virtuoses Stück für Klarinettisten im frühen 19. Jahrhundert.Wie so viele Komponisten der Klassik, beschrieb Krommer die Aritkulation von kaum mehr als ein paar Phrasen seiner Soli für Bläser. Infolgedessen nahmen sich die einzelnen Spieler viel Freiheiten, wo und wann sie angestoßen oder gebunden spielten. Artikulation für Bläser, genau wie Bogenbewegung für Streicher, mussflexibel in ihrer Auslegung und Durchführung sein. Die richtige Spielweise ergibt aus dem technischen Können und der Ausdrucksstärke des jeweiligen Spielers. Der Dirigent sollte dies zusammen mit seinem Solisten erarbeiten.

Le compositeur et violoniste tchèque Frantisek Vincenc Kramar dont le nom fut germanisé en Franz Vinzenz Krommer, est né le 27 novembre 1759 Kamenice en Moravie occidentale et mort le 8 janvier 1831 Vienne en Autriche. l’adolescence, il est initié l’art du violon et l’orgue par son oncle Anton Matthias Krommer lui-même organiste et chef de chœur. En 1785, il fait un premier séjour Vienne avant de rejoindre l’orchestre du Comte de Limburg-Stirum dont la résidence se trouve Simontornya en Hongrie. Il est engagé d’abord en tant que violon solo de l’orchestre puis plus tard en tant que maître de chapelle. Vers 1790, il obtient le poste de chef de chœur la cathédrale de Pécs. Il quitte cette fonction en 1793 pour entrer au service du Comte Károlyi puis du Prince Antal Grassalkovich. En 1795, suite au décès du prince hongrois, Franz Krommer revient Vienne. Après une longue période d’infortune, il entre comme Maître de Chapelle au service du Duc Ignaz Fuchs, en 1806. Quatre ans plus tard, il est nommé au poste de directeur musical du Thé tre Royal et Impérial de Vienne (Wiener Hoftheater). En 1818, succédant Leopold (Johann Anton) Kozeluch, il devient le dernier Maître de musique de chambre et compositeur de la cour des Habsbourg. Il gardera ses fonctions jusqu’ sa mort en 1831.Franz Krommer était l’un des plus illustres compositeurs tchèques de la Vienne impériale vers la fin du XVIIIe siècle. Sa musique était très appréciée de son vivant et certains le considéraient comme le digne héritier de Joseph Haydn. Son style est indéniablement apparenté ce dernier mais aussi celui de Mozart. Franz Krommer a composé de nombreuses symphonies, des concertos (essentiellement pour instruments vent solistes), des duos pour violons, des quatuors cordes, de la musique de chambre et des œuvres sacrées. Le Concerto pour Clarinette Opus 36 de Krommer a été publié pour la première fois en 1803 chez l’éditeur allemand Johann Anton André.

Großer Gott, wir loben dich is a well-known German hymn, written by Ignaz Franz in the 18th century but based on the 4th century Te Deum laudamus. After a radiant introduction by the brass section, the first variation on the chorale appears. Subsequently, the song is rendered in its original form. Then three more variations follow. The result is a solemn work that is very fitting within the context of a church service, but is also suitable for many other occasions.

Grosser Gott, wir loben dich is een bekende traditionele Duitse lofzang die in de 18e eeuw werd geschreven door Ignaz Franz, op basis van het 4e-eeuwse Te Deum laudamus van - waarschijnlijk - Nicetas von Remesiana. Demooie melodie ligt goed in het gehoor. Het is een plechtig werk dat in de context van een kerkdienst goed tot zijn recht komt, maar ook voor diverse andere gelegenheden geschikt is.

Nach einer strahlenden Einleitung der Blechbläser setzt die erste Variation über das bekannte Kirchenlied ein. Danach erscheint das Lied in seiner ursprünglichen Form, gefolgt von drei weiteren Variationen. Das Ganze fügt sich zu einem feierlichen Werk, das sehr gut in einen Gottesdienst passt, sich aber auch für zahlreiche andere Anlässe eignet.

Grosser Gott, wir loben dich (Grand Dieu nous te bénissons) est un célèbre cantique allemand composé au XVIIIe siècle par Ignaz Franz. Sa mélodie est directement inspirée du Te Deum laudamus (IVe siècle), fréquemment attribué Nicetas, évêque de Remesiana. La ligne mélodique est facile suivre.Après une introduction brillante par les cuivres, la première variation sur le choral apparaît. La mélodie du cantique est ensuite interprétée dans sa version originale suivie de trois autres variations. L’œuvre est solennelle et se prête une interprétation dans le cadre d’un office religieux ou en toute autre occasion festive.

Großer Gott, wir loben dich è un celebre cantico tedesco composto nel XVIII secolo da Ignaz Franz. La sua melodia è direttamente ispirata dal Te Deum laudamus (IV secolo) attribuito a Niceta, vescovo di Remesiana. Dopo un’introduzione brillante, appare la prima variazione. In seguito, la melodia del cantico è interpretata nella versione originale seguita da tre altre variazioni. Il brano è solenne e si presta ad una interpretazione in un contesto religioso e in tutte le occasioni festive.

Bicinia - unaccompanied duos - have been known to us from the fifteenth century onwards. So quite early on it was customary tu practise this type of musical exercise, which later, especially during the Romantic period, achieved great popularity as the duo or duett. Equal numbers of this sort of instrumental duo were composed for nearly all wind and string instruments. On the other hand, only a small amount of compositions for two trumpets have come down to us. In order to play any music which progresses beyond pure fanfare on a natural (valueless) trumpet, it is necessary to make use of the clarion register (the top third of the natural harmonic). And if such a melody is to be accompanied by a second part, only the few natural notes lying below it are left, or else this high register itself, which calls for great virtuosity on the part of the trumpeter. As well as this, we must remember the fact that trumpet-playing was only allowed for the trumpeters of a royal court, army, staff, or for the field-trumpeter of a prince, plus a few council, city, and church musicians, who were bound by strict guild and corporation rules. Thus in spite of the preference for its festive sound, the spread and handing down of trumpet music was almost reduced to nothing under these circumstances. As well as this, pride of place and profession rivalry and envy amongst musicians contributed in large part. In England the situation was somewhat freer. Here pretty little trumpet duos originated, including, amongst others, those written by Handel for his master-trumpeter Valentin Snow and the Royal Sergeant-trumpeters of the Shore family. An especially happy exception was the diocese of Olmiitz. Here there was a capable group of musicians of the chapel royal with the brilliantly talented group of trumpeters and the field-trumpeter Pavel Vajvanovsky, who also composed himself. These trumpeters in the service of his prince-bishop played many sacred and secular pieces, all for several instruments. It was for them also that Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber wrote the 12 double trumpet sonatas we present here. On the other hand, the representatives of the authorities in Germany ensured strict observation of all edicts and regulations. Even the celebrated Bach-trumpeter and towm-piper Gottfried Reiche was never allowed to be portrayed with a proper trumpet due to the priveleges of court and field trumpeters. In order to represent him as one of the greatest masters of his time and art, however, the painter placed an instrument similar to a corno-di-caccia in his hand, together with a sheet with a small piece for virtuoso clarion. When we try in spite of these difficulties and adverse circumstances to gather a collection of musically valuable and characteristic examples of popular pieces for two trumpets from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, it is in the first, place in order to acquaint modern trumpeters with something of the wealth of music, which can also be well played on a modern trumpet with valves. The originally used trumpets correspond to modern ones in the keys of C and D, but this does not mean that many of the pieces cannot be transposed to a more comfortable register. On top of this, we have tried to give a picture of the baroque court and field trumpeter, as well as of the mysterious clarion trumpeter, with the help of musically popular material. The origin of most of the pieces used is no longer clearly discernable. In most cases we possess second- or third-hand copies which have been handed down, and show signs of frequent use. A few cases where modernization of the second part obviously did not take place until the invention of stops, have been re-shaped into their supposed original form.
