Eero Sipila was an organist by training. His liking for Gregorian chant left its mark on his compositions in the form of stylistic borrowings or at least reflections. In one of his letters Sipila mentioned as his main work the quartet that was to be the last thing he wrote. The name Lux aeterna is a reference to the section in the Gregorian mass, melodic motifs from which dominate the entire quartet. There is no trace of the modernistic tendencies of the works composed in the 1960s, but the pungent seconds harmonies characteristic of Sipila are all there.

Gyula Dávid (1913-1977) was one of the most important members of the generation of Hungarian composers who followed Bartók and Kodály. His ?uvre includes stage, orchestral, oratorial, chamber, and solo instrumental works. Although he rarely quoted folk material directly in his music, folksong, popular music and the spirit of the Hungarian musical tradition permeates his works. In the last two decades of his life he wrote atonal and twelve-tone compositions. With his Wind Quintet (composed 1949) he created a genre which plays an important role in the new Hungarian music. Gyula Dávid studied composition with Albert Siklós and Zoltán Kodály at the Academy of Music in Budapest, graduating in 1938. Between 1938 and 1945 he worked in several orchestras as viola player. From 1945 to 1949 he was conductor at Hungarian National Theatre, than he became leader of the Ensemble of the Hungarian Army. From 1961 to his retirement he was professor at the Teacher Training Faculty of the Academy of Music in Budapest. Between 1951 and 1960 he taught wind chamber music, music theory and wind orchestration at the Academy of Music. He was one of the founders of the Hungarian Artists' Union. He was awarded the Erkel Prize (1952, 1955) and the Kossuth Prize (1957).

The OperAria repertoire anthology was much applauded when it came on stage with three baritone volumes in 2015. The successful baritone debut was followed in 2017/18 by the appearance of the four soprano volumes, also conquering hearts in no time. Now, another performance: The curtain rises on the bass volumes, the foundation of the vocal family for heavier, darker voices, though nevertheless brilliant and full of radiance. The protagonists have such well-known names as Bartolo, Don Basilio, Colline, Don Pasquale, Falstaff, Figaro, Kecal, Osmin, Sarastro. Other heroes less often in the limelight, such as Dulcamara, Sancho Pansa, Phanuel, and Sir Morosus, can certainly also count on much applause. It is my aim to give students a modern, systematically structured, well-informed vocal coach that meets the demands of present-day stage practice. And, of course, a cohesive repertoire and logical presentation of audition arias for every vocal genre.(Peter Anton Ling)OperAria is the ideal vocal coach for all voice types. Edited by Peter Anton Ling, the books address all singers and are conceived above all for training and auditions.
