The name of this book is no exaggeration. It includes some of the most gorgeous music that the authors El McMeen and Sandy Shalk know. To make things even more interesting, none of the music was originally written for guitar. In addition to Celtic favorites, El includes his arrangements of two of the most beautiful arias in all of opera: Che Gelida Manina from Puccinis La Boheme and My Heart at Thy Sweet Voice ôMon Coeur Souvre ? ta Voixö from Samson and Delilah by Camille Saint-Sa?ns. Sandys contributions range from Celtic to French love songs to Stephen Foster, manifesting Sandys gift for chordal subtleties and innovation. Each piece is in either standard tuning EADGBE or Drop D tuning DADGBE .Written in standard notation and tablature with computer generated audio files of each arrangement.

This truly lovely Appalachian folk song is given a hauntingly beautiful setting by arranger Jamey Ray. This will work nicely for a choir with strong women’s voices, with occasional divisi, but the men’s parts stay with a strictly two-part voicing. Simply gorgeous!

In Book 3, Mary Leaf provides pieces that expand a pianist's concepts of rhythm and harmony. Students experience a solar eclipse with unusual harmonies, express an exotic melody at a caravanserai in the deserts of Africa, play a bit of the blues followed by a Baroque-styled piece, and convey a gorgeous cloudy day. Most of the nine pieces are 3 pages, and teachers will find this a very useful book-good teaching material.

The French composer Adolphe Charles Adam's (1803- 1856) carol Cantique de No l (better known in France as Minuit, Chrétiens, and also widely known as O Holy Night) was initially criticised by church authorities who observed a lack of musical taste and the absence of religious perception. How wrong they were is now clear as the song is popular worldwide and is often performed in churches as well as carol concerts. The Respiration of the Earth is inspired by the breathing motion. The music focuses on the tension of the air of breathing. There are many different types of breathing such as slow breath, long breath, short breath, holding breath, uneven breath, etc. The shape of the music is created by the inhale and exhale motion. The piece starts with a long holding breath, gradually create a tension until one can't hold that breath and release the air out. The Suona is acting as the motion of the air so the orchestra has to follow. This piece ends with the chaotic motion so the audiences can feel the tension as if they are running out of breath. It's a main concern about the environment of the Earth so this piece is a message to people to keep the environment clean so the Earth can breath for a longer time. Respiration of the Earth is commissioned and dedicated to Mr. Shi Haibin with the gracious support from John Simon Guggenheim Foundation. The Respiration of the Earth is inspired by the breathing motion.
