Missa Brevis is a major work for choir and brass band for performance in church or in the concert hall. For this mass, there are many performance possibilities depending on the musicians available. In addition to the standard orchestration ofchoir and band a brass quartet can also play the choral parts. For this it is desirable for the brass quartet to be positioned separately from the rest of the band (on a gallery, for example), so that the idea of two choirs is heard. It is alsopossible to perform the work with brass band and organ. A truly flexible religious masterpiece. Choral parts available separately.
2. clarinet choir saxofoons
3. zacht koper (bugels, hoorns, euphoniums, bassen)
4. scherp koper (2 trompetten / 2 trombones)
5. dubbelrieten (eventueel fluit, eventueel contrabas)
6. tutti

The Gospel Mass -a mass for mixed choir, combo and concert band-is based on the gospel music that has spread throughout the world since its creation in America. The movements of the mass ordinary as we know it have now been composed in various pop styles that have their origin in the gospel music. We hear, then, not only the classic American gospel style (including the characteristic clapping and swingrhythms), but also freer gospel styles that have developed over the course of time. Wer nur den lieben Gott lässt walten was composed by Georg Neumark in about 1641 and was subtitled ‘Trostlied’ literally meaning consolation song. Songbooks at the time showed the popularity of this song and it is still well-known today partly due to Johann Sebastian Bach’s use of the melody for one of his own chorals. In Jan de Haan’s arrangement the choral is heard twice, once, alternating with the original motif from the introduction and a second time, without interruption, reflecting the composer’s original intention - a song of consolation.

This Latin mass for choir and wind band was composed in honour of Saint Cecilia’s feast day, Saint Cecilia being the patroness of musicians. For this reason, many ensembles have annual concerts dedicated to Saint Cecila, which was the inspiration forthis piece. In the 19th and early 20th centuries, transcriptions of large (choral) symphonic works for two pianos were extremely popular, as they enabled a large audience to get to know classical compositions in an age before recorded music. In many cases, world-famous pieces were first performed in such a version â?? including Brucknerâ??s Te Deum. The Stuttgart composer, pianist and experienced piano-duo performer Sebastian Bartmann was commissioned by the Landesakademie für die musizierende Jugend in Baden-Württemberg Ochsenhausen to newly arrange Brucknerâ??s Te Deum and the Mass in D minor for soloists, choir, and two pianos. A timpani part (ad libitum) provides additional color. The arrangements are based on the original Carus editions. The vocal scores and choral scores of the original version can also be used. While Brucknerâ??s symphonic approach becomes evident for the first time in the Mass in D minor from 1864, the work does not place the same high demands on the performers as the two later masses. This arrangement for soloists, choir and 2 pianos has an air of transparency, rather like a work of chamber music.. Score available separately - see item CA.2709200.

Jacob de Haan begins his arrangement of the well-known hymn Allein Gott in der Höh’ sei Ehr (All Glory Be to God on High) with a quotation from his own Missa Katharina, a mass for choir, soprano, and band. To this melody he sets the Latin text from the last part of the Gloria. The chorale is then heard after an interlude and can, at the director’s discretion, be accompanied by the choir singing in either German or English. A perfect work for church concerts.
