Piccola musica profonda entstand für die Kontrabassklasse von Jürgen Michel an der Städt. Clara-Schumann-Musikschule Düsseldorf, insbesondere für den Einsatz bei Jugend musiziert. Der erste Satz Canzonetta profonda kam im Jahre 2016 bei diesem Wettbewerb zur Uraufführung. Laurenz Radig spielte beim Regionalwettbwerb Düsseldorf und beim Landeswettbewerb NRW in Altersgruppe 3. Ihm wurde der Sonderpreis des DTKV Düsseldorf/Mettmann für die beste Interpretation eines zeitgenössischen Stückes zuerkannt. Begleitet wurde er am Klavier von Susanne Ankener-Maczewski. Die maßvollen technischen Anforderungen der drei Sätze schließen neben den traditionellen Bogen- und Grifftechniken auch natürliche Flageoletts ein sowie ein Flageolett-Glissando.

Syva Ilo (Profound Joy) composed by Olli Kortekangas pays respect to the Lied tradition, in which the relationship between the words and music is most carefully weighed up. Few modern works have enjoyed quite so much popularity as this song cycle. The four solo songs are settings of words by three Finnish poets. The work was commissioned by the Finnish Cultural Foundation and is dedicated to Mirjam Helin. It is available in three versions, for high, medium and low voice. 1. Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts schrieb der Amerikaner James Pierpont ein Lied über die bei den Jugendlichen in seiner Heimat beliebten winterlichen Pferdeschlittenrennen. Damals ahnte er wohl nicht, dass das fröhliche Lied, das er One Horse Open Sleigh nannte, bald als das Weihnachtslied Jingle Bells um die ganze Welt gehen würde, wo es heute noch von keinem Weihnachtsfest wegzudenken ist. Naohiro Iwai schrieb dieses gelungene Arrangement für Blasorchester.
