Depicting the awe-inspiring moments after a thunderstorm, this concert overture is an exciting and dramatic work that portrays streaks of sunlight jetting toward the horizon. A lyrical opening sets the tone as the clouds begin to break, and then the music takes off in a frenzy of excitement as the sunlight breaks through. Incredible harmonies intertwine with dynamic fanfares and woodwind flourishes as the work continues to develop. A lyrical section provides a brief respite to the active rhythmic pulse before the music takes off again, building to one last heroic statement of the main theme. Inspirational!

Reflections From the Wall commemorates the 40th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War, and is inspired by the men and women who served our country during this conflict. The basis of the music is an emotional representation of the composer's visit to the Vietnam War Memorial and to the power of this spectacular monument. Opening with a simple depiction of a cloud-covered morning which broadens into a dramatic and powerful reflection from the wall as the sun breaks through the clouds. Emotion, reflection and a sincere thanks to those who served are the driving musical elements of this powerful piece. This composition will be received warmly and gratefully by all audiences.

Explore the terrain and weather conditions of the Pacific Northwest, beginning with a cold, fog-covered morning, concealing the beauty of the surrounding landscapes. As the sun continues to rise, the fog fades and a gloomy rainstorm takes its place while we traverse through the evergreens. As the music persists onwards, rays of sunshine break through the clouds and bring about a warm, joyous afternoon filled with light, breathtaking mountain views, and the scent of pine needles.

Appropriate for middle school and smaller high school groups. Second clarinets usually stay below the break. Parts are written with more independence, and instrumentation increases slightly. There is still adequate doubling in the lower voices. Grades 2 - 2.5
