The Symphonic Dances were written for Peter Boonshaft, director of the Hofstra University Wind Ensemble, who premiered the work in 2009. The three movements (Gopak, Valse Triste, Barcarolle) are presented as separate publications, each with a very different spirit. (Gopak, Movement I of Symphonic Dances, was announced previously, 115-40209.).

This Is It is the title track from the film of the same name that first appeared after the death of Michael Jackson. The title, that should have represented the climax of a great career, has now taken on a second, unintentionally sadder meaning. In a brand new arrangement for wind orchestra by Hideaki Miura, the last hit of the ‘King of Pop’ is a must for your entertaining repertoire!

At last the bass clarinet can shine in this major new solo work for bass clarinet and concert band. This composition begins with a rather mysterious opening passage with atmospheric sounds and effects. The soloist plays-preferably backstage- a number of fragments and melodic patterns, without actually starting the piece. After this somewhat hesitant introduction, a lively, cheerful allegro entitled Con Giocondita (with joy) bursts out. It isswarming with irregular meters, changing tempos, and polyrhythm, through which the listeners (and sometimes also the musicians) constantly get the feeling that they are being tossed around. The second movement brings rest andpeace making careful use of sound colours. The upbeat finale, titled Con Allegria (with cheerfulness), is the most significant movement for the soloist. This is a challenging piece of music that demands great virtuosity, but withthe correct performer it will be a real highpoint in any concert..In een mysterieuze openingspassage zijn atmosferische klanken te horen.

Following the spectacular movie Titanic, the story of the world famous ship stood in the spotlights once again. Piet Swerts was inspired by this catastrophic saga to compose this beautifully narrative piece, reflecting the masses of people in Southampton, playing children and the undulating sea. The piece gradually picks up impetuously culminating with the looming iceberg and the dramatic sinking of the Titanic.
