“Concertino Da Camera, written in 1935 by Jacques Ibert (1890-1962) is a small concerto for Alto Saxophone and eleven instruments: Flute, Bassoon, Oboe, Horn, Trumpet and Strings. This concertino in two movements, Allegro con moto and Larghetto ? Animato Molto, is dedicated to the saxophonist Sigurd Rascher and stands out for its large use of the Alto Saxophone. It can be technically challenging and has a strong lyrical part. This volume is the pocket version of the score. Its author, Jacques Ibert (1890-1962) is a neoclassical composer who won the Prix de Rome in 1919. He composed many symphonic suites, operas and seven orchestras, including 'Angelique' (1926) and 'Divertissement' (1930). He also was in charge of the Accadémie de France in the Villa Médicis (Roma) and was later administrator for the Paris Opera. This concerto has some similarities with is Flute Concerto (1934), also published by Alphonse Leduc.”.

This little concerto for clarinet was written for Peter Holligan , a friend of its composer, and the Fife Youth Concert Band (Scotland).

The work was based on traditional Celtic music, and consists of three movements.
1. Reel - a fast dance ending in an atmospheric but virtuoso cadenza.
2. Lament - a slow and melancholy song hinting at the sound of bagpipes.
3. A fast and virtuoso dance in 6/8 time with Irish influence.

The work is a wonderful audience-pleaser and an absolute 'must' for all clarinet-players.
The band too is called upon and by all means does have its part to play in the piece.

Boismortier is considered to be one of the most popular and most hard-working composers of his time. The original title of this sonata in A Minor indicates flutes, violins and other instruments as well suited for performance. The first movement of this work, an Allegretto, begins with a fanfare-like opening. After a number of other melody lines, a reprise of the beginning follows, which ends in a cadenza for the soloist. Movement two, titled Rituel, is characterized by interplay between the soloist and the band within a stately melody. In the final movement, the theme of the first movement's opening returns.
