Harald Genzmer's composition Divertimento di danza for string orchestra clearly continues the baroque form of the divertimento. This light music * in the truest sense of the word * consisted of a sequence of loose movements with free forms and dance movements alternat-ing in varied succession. The divertimento comprised five to six movements. Genzmer kept to all these facts but he brought new life into the old forms. Though he did not compose in the old style, he respected certain rules of the traditional form. Rachel Portman's Magnificat And Nunc Dimittis  for SATB choir and Organ accompaniment. Born in west Sussex, England, Rachel Portman began composing at age 14 and read music at Oxford University. She gained experience writing music for drama in BBC and Channel 4 films including Mike Leigh's Four Days In July and Jim Henson's Storyteller series. Her extensive film work includes scores for Never Let me Go, The Joy Luck Club, Benny and June, and the Manchurian Candidate. She won an Academy award for her score for Emma and Academy nominations for Chocolat and The Cider House Rules. She has written a musical of Little House on the Prairie as well as an opera of Saint Exupery'sThe Little Prince for Houston Grand Opera and The Water Diviner, a dramatic choral symphony commissioned for the BBC Proms concerts. She was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2010 New Year Honours.

Carl Hauptmann was in poor health as a child, but highly intelligent. He studied philosophy, psychology and biology. In the latter he was admitted to the degree of doctor. His marriage provided financial independence, so that he could focus on his studies.
Hauptmann wrote various novels, plays, poetry and scientific works.

Twilight floats above the valley's night
mists are hanging,
there's a whispering brook.
Now the covering veil is lifting quite:
come and look!
See the magicland before our gaze:
tall as dreams the silver mountains stand,
crossed by silent silver paths shining from a secret land.

Wordsworth 'introduced' a new type of poetry, based on the speech of the common man. This was his answer to the poetry of the classicism which was bound by rigid rules. His definition of poetry was: the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings from emotions recollected in tranquility.

In a truly poetic manner Harrie Janssen has transformed the contemplative thoughts of the poets into two compositions for Concert Band.

Two Symphonic Interludes is gebaseerd op gedichten van de Duitse dichter Carl Hauptmann (laat Romantiek) en de Engelse dichter William Wordsworth (vroeg Romantiek).

Carl Hauptmann had als kind een zeer zwakke gezondheidmaar was zeer intelligent. Hij studeerde Filosofie, Psychologie en Biologie. In het laatste vak promoveerde hij. Het huwelijk zorgde voor financiele onafhankelijkheid zodat hij zich kon richten op zijn verdere studie. Hauptmannschreef enkele romans, toneelstukken, poëzie en wetenschappelijke werken.

In the 1980s and 1990s there was a new surge of interest in the old swing of the 30s and 40s. The epicentre of this swing revival lay in the American state of California, Los Angeles and San Francisco in particular. Based on therules of the old swing in which each beat has a ternary subdivision but with more contemporary sounds and harmonies, Peter Kleine Schaars composed this work San Fransisco Swing. Through the frequent use of the rhythmiccells 22, 23 and 24 in all parts of this composition, each band, irrespective of its experience with swing music, will be able to give a swinging performance!

In de jaren tachtig en negentig van de vorige eeuw ontstond er een nieuwe golf van belangstelling voor de oude swing van de jaren dertig en veertig. Het epicentrum van deze swingrevival lag in de Amerikaanse staat Californië, metname in Los Angeles en San Francisco. Gebaseerd op de wetten van de oude swing waarin elke beat een ternaire onderverdeling heeft maar met meer hedendaagse klanken en harmonieën, componeerde Peter Kleine Schaars deze SanFransisco Swing. Door middel van het veelvuldig gebruik van de ritmische cellen 22, 23 en 24 in alle stemmen van deze compositie zal elk orkest, ongeacht de ervaring met swingmuziek, in staat zijn een swingende performanceneer te zetten!

Peter Kleine Schaars komponierte das Stück San Fransisco Swing nach den Regeln des alten Swings, bei dem jeder Schlag eine ternäre Unterteilung hat, allerdings mit modernen Klängen und Harmonien.Durch die häufige Verwendung der Rhythmus-Einheiten 22 und 24 in allen Stimmen der Komposition kann jedes Orchester unabhängig von seiner Erfahrung mit Swingmusik eine swingende“ Aufführung präsentieren!
