The composition ".The Fever Tree". in 2008 was commissioned by the Music Association of Central and Eastern Netherlands St.Willibrord as a gift to all its members on the occasion of the formation of a national music organization and the elimination of the music union for Central and Eastern Netherlands St.Willibrord. The fever tree is a controversial legend about St. Willibrord (658-739). The daughter of a pagan chieftain of Hoemannen that made the area around Heumen unsafe, was seriously ill. They feared for her life. The chief of the gang turned to predatory Willibrord, who same time in this region led mission. Willibrord commanded theman to repent and a headband of the girl to a certain special tree to hang. The desperate captain obeyed, and his daughter was a miraculous heal. Then came the anger of the Hoemannen against their leader, who in their eyes had committed treason by the group to convert. They abused themselves to him and killed him brutally. The daughter remained behind in great sorrow, comforted by Willibrord.

De compositie 'The Fever Tree' (De koortsboom) werd in 2008 geschreven in opdracht van de Muziekbond Midden- en Oost Nederland St.Willibrord, als geschenk aan al haar leden bij gelegenheid van de vorming van één landelijke muziekorganisatieen de opheffing van de muziekbond voor Midden- en Oost Nederland St.Willibrord.
De koortsboom is een omstreden legende rond St. Willibrord (658-739). De dochter van de heidense hoofdman van de Hoemannen, diehet gebied rond Heumen onveilig maakten, was ernstig ziek. Men vreesde voor haar leven. De hoofdman van de roofzuchtige bende wende zich tot Willibrord, die in dezelfde tijd in deze streek missioneerde. Willibrord gebood deman zich te bekeren én een hoofdband van het meisje aan een bepaalde, bijzondere boom te hangen. De radeloze hoofdman gehoorzaamde en zijn dochter werd op wonderbaarlijke wijze genezen. Toen keerde de woede van de Hoemannen zichtegen hun leider, die in hun ogen verraad had gepleegd aan de groep door zich te bekeren. Ze vergrepen zich aan hem en vermoordden hem op gruwelijke wijze. De dochter bleef in grote droefheid achter, getroost door Willibrord.

He had been employed as organist and chamber musician at the court of Weimar since 1708; on 2 March 1714, he was appointed concert master of the court, and his inauguration music for this occasion was Himmelskonig, sei willkommen. The cantata was first performed on Palm Sunday of that year, 25 March 1714. Bach performed this cantata several times - always revising and amending it - both in Weimar and in Leipzig. Of the altogether four versions, the first Leipzig version has been selected for the present new edition. Unlike the Weimar versions, it can be realized effectively using modern performance means. In his debut composition of 1714, the newly appointed concert master demonstrated his abilities: the eight movements contain a multitude of beautiful and rewarding challenges for choir and vocal soloists alike, and in addition there is the unusual attraction of a virtuoso solo part for the recorder. The composition ".The Fever Tree". in 2008 was commissioned by the Music Association of Central and Eastern Netherlands St.Willibrord as a gift to all its members on the occasion of the formation of a national music organization and the elimination of the music union for Central and Eastern Netherlands St.Willibrord. The fever tree is a controversial legend about St. Willibrord (658-739). The daughter of a pagan chieftain of Hoemannen that made the area around Heumen unsafe, was seriously ill. They feared for her life. The chief of the gang turned to predatory Willibrord, who same time in this region led mission. Willibrord commanded theman to repent and a headband of the girl to a certain special tree to hang. The desperate captain obeyed, and his daughter was a miraculous heal. Then came the anger of the Hoemannen against their leader, who in their eyes had committed treason by the group to convert. They abused themselves to him and killed him brutally. The daughter remained behind in great sorrow, comforted by Willibrord.

De compositie 'The Fever Tree' (De koortsboom) werd in 2008 geschreven in opdracht van de Muziekbond Midden- en Oost Nederland St.Willibrord, als geschenk aan al haar leden bij gelegenheid van de vorming van één landelijke muziekorganisatieen de opheffing van de muziekbond voor Midden- en Oost Nederland St.Willibrord.
De koortsboom is een omstreden legende rond St. Willibrord (658-739). De dochter van de heidense hoofdman van de Hoemannen, diehet gebied rond Heumen onveilig maakten, was ernstig ziek. Men vreesde voor haar leven. De hoofdman van de roofzuchtige bende wende zich tot Willibrord, die in dezelfde tijd in deze streek missioneerde. Willibrord gebood deman zich te bekeren én een hoofdband van het meisje aan een bepaalde, bijzondere boom te hangen. De radeloze hoofdman gehoorzaamde en zijn dochter werd op wonderbaarlijke wijze genezen. Toen keerde de woede van de Hoemannen zichtegen hun leider, die in hun ogen verraad had gepleegd aan de groep door zich te bekeren. Ze vergrepen zich aan hem en vermoordden hem op gruwelijke wijze. De dochter bleef in grote droefheid achter, getroost door Willibrord.

Gott ist unsre Zuversicht BWV 197 was probably written in the second half of the 1730s for a wedding, no further details of which are known. In the opening chorus in particular, it features quite a sizeable orchestra. The text of the cantata has one major theme - trust in God! In a magnificent lullaby (movement 3) all cares are sung to sleep. The other arias, with their exceptionally exquisite combinations of scorings, make the cantata into a quite special work, albeit one which is associated with a particular occasion. The wedding cantata BWV 197 draws on older material for some of its movements. Two movements are parodies on arias from the incomplete surviving Christmas cantata Ehre sei Gott in der Hohe, BWV 197a, including the lullaby O du angenehmes Paar, of which only the last quarter survives from the Christmas cantata - it is O du angenehmer Schatz there. By using the later version, Diethard Hellmann has been able to reconstruct the original version of this dreamlike beautiful movement; however, the complete Christmas cantata cannot be reconstructed from the sources. A paean to the power of music, the work is one of the undoubted masterpieces of English choral odes of that time.
A resolution of the Musical Society of London in 1683 launched the great tradition of annual celebrations for St. Ceciliaâs Day (November 22), featuring a church service followed by performances of specially composed music. Over the years, Purcell wrote several odes for the occasion, of which this example from 1692 is one of the most popular. Four decades later, Handel would also contribute to the celebrations with his Alexanderâs Feast, HWV 75 (Carus 55.075), and his Ode for St. Ceciliaâs Day, HWV 76 (Carus 55.076).
Purcellâs magnificent music, which features a huge range of tonal color and form, offers delightful parts for a variety of solo, ensemble, and choral settings. With its richly expressive palette, the Ode to St. Cecilia is an extremely rewarding work by the âOrpheus Britannicusâ, as Purcell was admiringly called by contemporaries.
