Krenek's long life in music began as a conductor in German opera houses, which may explain his prodigious output of original operas (Jonny spielt auf, The Bell Tower, etc.). But his compositions include all instruments, from solo to orchestral, and cover a wide range of influences (neo-classical, 12-tone, neo-romantic, even jazz overtones). Universal Edition proudly presents two of Krenek's Sonates for solo Violin, the first from 1925, at about the time of his divorce from his first wife, Anna Mahler.

About Suzuki Method

The Suzuki Method is based on the principle that all children possess ability and that this ability can be developed and enhanced through a nurturing environment. All children learn to speak their own language with relative ease and if the same natural learning process is applied in teaching other skills, these can be acquired as successfully. Suzuki referred to the process as the Mother Tongue Method and to the whole system of pedagogy as Talent Education. The important elements of the Suzuki approach to instrumental teaching include the following:an early start (aged 3-4 is normal in most countries); the importance of listening to music; learning to play before learning to read; -the involvement of the parent; a nurturing and positive learning environment; a high standard of teaching by trained teachers; the importance of producing a good sound in a balanced and natural way; core repertoire, used by Suzuki students across the world; social interaction with other children. Part of the collection ?Concert Solo?, Ninth Concerto is a contemporary and modern piece by Raymond Gallois Montbrun, for Violin and Piano. Quite difficult, this piece should prepare upper-intermediate players to play classical concertos. This really nice piece is composed of a main theme, four variations and a final. The theme is quite lyrical and has an Allegretto tempo. The fourth theme stands out by its extensive use of harmonies. The Piano accompaniment also evolves based on the variations. The piece finishes on a really harmonious final. Raymond Gallois Montbrun (1918-1994) was a French violinist and composer who won the Premier Grand Prix de Rome and the Grand Prix de Paris. He later became the director of the Paris Conservatoire. He composed many symphonic pieces, an opera, a quartet and many pieces for Solo Piano, Violin and Piano and other instruments..

Programme Note
Lucky's Speech was composed at the request of the violinist Darragh Morgan, for the launch of his recital CD Opera on the NMC label in June 2006. The title refers to a pivotal moment in Samuel Beckett's play Waiting for Godot, when the hitherto silent character Lucky suddenly pours forth a torrential stream of gibberish.

This idea also suggested the cadenza of my Violin Concerto, composed in the same year, and it is reflected in both cases by an almost breathless musical activity punctuated by pizzicato commentaries. I should like to thank Darragh Morgan for his invaluable advice in the preparation of the score.

Commissioned by Kennesaw State University Symphony Orchestra in 2012, Chinese Rap for violin and orchestra is premiered by Prof. Helen Kim as the soloist and the KSUSO led by Prof. Michael Alexander at Bailey Center in KSU, GA on Feb. 17, 2014. The work is inspired by Chinese folk musical story telling, Quyi, in a form of mixed reciting and singing style, with interludes played by percussion and plucking instruments in accompaniment. The folk musical story telling is sung in dialects from different geographic regions. I mixed all these elements in a complex three-part form, with an introduction, a cadenza in the middle, and a coda as the frame in the structure. The melodies are delicate and leisurely, and the rhythmic parts are energetic, vivid and lively. There are big contrasts between sections, which are juxtaposed and connected smoothly and congenially.
