Argentinian folk music composer, Los Hermanos Abalis best known for founding a folk group in 1939. Their career high point came in 1942 when their song, Carnavalito Quebradeno was used in the film, La Guerra Gaucha. Virtu Maragno (1828-2004) sublimely harmonises the song for SATB choir. Argentinian born Maragno was a composer of classical, opera and film music, as well as a teaching and national academic. His harmonisation of Carnavalito Quebradeno displays elements of South American folk music. For aspiring four-part choirs, Maragno's harmonisation of Los Hermanos Abal's Carnavalito Quebradeno makes for an exciting, alternative performance work..

For many choral singers Jesu, meine Freude is not just a motet by Bach, but the motet par excellence. Bach's motets as a whole have to be described as exceptional works, but even amongst these this is an exceptional work which is out of the ordinary not only in terms of its length. The formal conception, with its alternating chorale and Bible verses in 11 sections in a symmetrical structure, is also unique. The motet was very probably composed for a funeral, but no further details about this are known. By comparison, there are clear indications that the motet, as we now know it, was probably not composed in one go, but was composed over a long period of time. Score available separately - see item CA.3122700.

ThePetite Messe solennelleis the finest work of Rossini's late years. He composed it between 1863 and 1864 at the age of 71 as a commission for Countess Louise Pillet -Will for the consecration of her private chapel, where the work received its first performance in March 1864. Together with theStabat mater, the mass is one of the composer's mostimportant sacred works. The unusual instrumentation with two pianos and harmonium is entirely in keeping with the Neapolitan keyboard tradition of the 18th century which was cultivated in France in Rossini's day. It forms a distinct contrast to the style of large-scale sacred compositions as written by, for example, Liszt and Bruckner. Rossini explained that he wrote the later orchestral version of the work dating from 1867 out of concern that if he did not do this, other composers might orchestrate the mass too heavily in later arrangements.- Choral score based on the Urtext of the seriesWorks of Gioachino Rossini- Supplements the already existing material available to this work
