At times Romantic, at other times with a jazzy touch, the Choral collection Bruckner. Secular choral music is full of exciting discoveries and new arrangements at various levels of difficulty. Anton Bruckner’s secular choral music is often overshadowed by his great symphonies and sacred choral works – unfairly, as choral experts Simon Halsey and Jan Schumacher prove with their small but fine selection of choral music inspired by secular texts. Bruckner left only a few movements for mixed choir; instead, his music for male voices constitutes a far larger body of work. For this collection, renowned arrangers from Germany, England, Denmark, and Italy have specially reworked the most beautiful of these choral movements for SATB, enabling this great repertoire to be performed by mixed choirs. Two original SATB compositions are also included. Furthermore, the choral collection features arrangements of songs originally written for solo voice and piano with texts by such poets as Heinrich Heine and Emanuel Geibel. Another highlight is an arrangement of the Adagio from Bruckner’s String Quintet WAB 112, which Heribert Breuer has created for choir to a text by Georg Trakl.- 16 SATB settings, several with keyboard accompaniment- Selected by Simon Halsey and Jan Schumacher- Modern SATB arrangements of male-voice works and solo songs, as well as original compositions - Affordable complete volume (editionCHOR) as well as separate editions available in print and digitally.- Introductory price valid until 31.10.2023, then 27.00 EUR (editionCHORLEITUNG) and 15.00 EUR (editionCHOR, minimum order: 20 copies)

The composer writes: â??I was delighted to be asked by Daniel Hyde and King's College, Cambridge to write this year's commission for the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols. I have chosen to set a familiar text and tune - Angelus ad Virginem - and for it to serve as a tribute to the late great Simon Preston CBE (chorister and later organ scholar at King's). The text suggests something descriptive and exuberant, and this arrangement makes use of the original 13th century carol throughout. A colorful organ part is designed to propel the music forward, sometimes twisting and distorting the melody in unexpected ways, hopefully reflecting something of Simon's wit, vitality and stylish energy.â? - Matthew Martin.

When Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart returned to Salzburg in January 1779 from his journey to Paris, his luggage contained a single church music work - an unfinished Kyrie in E flat major (KV 296a) together with sketches for the Sanctus and Benedictus (KV 296c). In 2015, at the suggestion of the late Armin Kircher, Johann Simon Kreuzpointner set about compiling a five-movement setting of the mass from this material, also drawing on an unfinished cantata in E flat major (KV 429). For the orchestration and text underlay, Kreuzpointner took his cue from Mozart's church music works. With this edition Kreuzpointner, an experienced church musician and composer, created a convincing and stylistically assured work, which he tried out in several performances. The result is a concise setting of the mass, good to sing, which does not present any great difficulties for soloists, chorus, or orchestra. The title Missa brevissima does not come from Mozart, but was chosen because of the brevity of the mass setting with its missing Credo. It also underlines the special status of this setting of the mass. Score available separately - see item CA.5180100.
