Early Piano Music. Par STRAUSS RICHARD. These previously unpublished piano pieces will appear in print for the first time in three volumes. Volume I contains fairly short individual pieces (1872-83) of widely varying difficulty. Volume II will contain four Sonatinas in several movements and a Fantasia (1874), which is about as demanding as the Sonatinas of Kuhlau and Clementi or early pieces by Mozart. Volume III contains two Sonatas (1877 and 1879) and a cycle of variations (1884) whose technical demands approach those of the Beethoven Sonatas. The tonal language of the young Richard Strauss was still firmly under the influence of nineteenth-Century traditions, with the figures of Schubert, Mendelssohn and Schumann dominating the musical landscape. Richard DUBUGNON, compositeur franco-suisse, est né à Lausanne en 1968. Après avoir étudié l'histoire à Montpellier, il entame ses études musicales à l'âge de vingt ans, se consacrant à la contrebasse et à l'écriture. Elève du CNSM de Paris de 1990 à 1995, il y obtient des prix de contrebasse, contrepoint et fugue. En 1997, il s'installe à Londres pour se perfectionner en composition à la Royal Academy of Music, puis enseigner cette discipline pendant sept ans. De retour en France, il a reçu de nombreux prix dont le Prix Pierre Cardin de l'Académie des Beaux-Arts et le prix de la Fondation Natexis Groupe Populaire. Ses oeuvres ont été jouées dans de nombreux pays, et son premier enregistrement, paru chez Naxos, a été unanimement salué par la presse britannique, française et suisse. Richard Dubugnon qui, en qualité de contrebassiste, se produit régulièrement en récital et au sein de concerts de musique contemporaine, a récemment reçu des commandes de Radio France, Musique nouvelle en liberté et du Concours Long-Thibaud.
