The Magnificat shows the typical personal style of the composer Gunther Martin Gottsche, who was inspired by the colorful harmonics of French Impressionism as well as by elements of jazz music. He has given equal consideration to both the vocal line and the ease of execution as well as an understanding for the musical events and a comprehensible interpretation of the text. The work, which was revised at the beginning of 2016, is based on an earlier work commissioned for the Dresden Kreuzkirche. A version with organ accompaniment (instead of orchestra) is also available. Score available separately - see item CA.2721000.

This setting of Psalm 126, expressing the melancholy of captivity as well as thanksgiving for deliverance, is more syncopated and upbeat than most. The melodic repetition in the refrain makes it easy for the assembly to respond, and the harmonization is jazzy and wistful. Youth and adult choirs will love this piece, plus there's a chance for solo or section to shine on the verses. Appropriate for Advent, Lent, and Ordinary Time (30B). For cantor or soloist.

With a duration of 15 minutes, the Missa secunda is suitable for concert performance or for use in church services. The scoring is flexible and structured in modules: there is a cantus firmus which can be sung by a choir, or by the congregation in unison in treble or bass range. * It is perfectly possible to achieve an expressive performance of this unison version with just organ accompaniment. * The Missa secunda can be expanded to a four-part setting. * A five-part performance can be achieved by the addition of an upper voice (children's choir or solo soprano). * In the full scoring the Missa secunda can be accompanied in ceremonial style by a wind quintet and timpani. Score and part available separately - see item CA.2707500.
