Wedding Bells was inspired by the wedding of our eldest daughter, Tess. The Wagner and Mendelssohn wedding marches are of course ever popular and the slow movement of the Mozart clarinet concerto contrasts beautifully. My own piece Wedding Bells conveys a celebratory, loving and joyous atmosphere and on the big day I played it during the signing of the register, accompanied by the father of the bride — it was an emotional performance! These arrangements are intended to catch the mood: purists please forgive me — Wagner, Mozart and Mendelssohn may not have written every note here, but I hope that they would have approved.ContentsRichard Wagner: Bridal Chorus from LohengrinWolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Clarinet Concerto — 2nd MovementPat Goddard: Wedding BellsFelix Mendelssohn: Wedding March from the incidental music to A Midsummer Night’s DreamGrades 5–7Former Spartan Press Cat. Xavier Montsalvatge (1912-2002) was a consummate Spanish composer who explored many 20th century styles including Impressionism, Serialism, Modernism, and Wagnerism, while maintaining a distinctive Catalan character. He first came to prominence in 1940, after the Spanish Civil War, and is seen to represent the lost generation which was active in the second half of the 1900's. He helped to advance Spanish music from the Nationalistic style that dominated before the war, and began to introduce West Indian influences into European music. Self-Parafrasis for Clarinet and Piano was written around 1968, when Montsalvatge was just coming into the height of his compositional prowess. Itis presented here in a high-quality glossy cover, and would make the perfect gift for any clarinettist.

August Louis Baeyens received his musical training at the Royal Flemish Music Conservatory in Antwerp, studying solfège, viola, and harmony. As a composer, Baeyens developed chiefly through the study of composers such as Debussy, Wagner and Strauss; this interest gave him the reputation of a revolutionary within the confines of the very traditionalist conservatory. This Rhapsodie for Clarinet and Piano was composed in 1965, only a year before his death. Composed in the concours style, it opens with a lyrical Moderato, leading to a faster and more technical Allegro section.
