L’orgue-Alexandre est l’instrument du jour et l’on s’arrache les billets pour entendre l’étonnant corniste Vivier, très apprécié à la cour. D’autres instrumentistes exceptionnels comme Bülow, Litolff ou le jeune Wieniawski se distinguent parmi les centaines d’artistes qui se produisent. Berlioz ne fréquente plus la Société des concerts du Conservatoire, trop « endormie », mais salue le dynamisme de la Société des jeunes artistes dirigée par Jules Pasdeloup et la création de nouvelles formations de musique de chambre.
