The Four Duets, BWV 802-805 are part of a larger collection, the Clavier-ubung III sometimes called the German Organ Mass. They were first published in 1739, mostly likely intended to be performed on the organ, as they have a range from C2 to C6; playable on almost any organ from that era. However, they could have been performed on any keyboard of the time. Musically they are more complex than the Two Part Inventions, and their purpose was most likely to take two-part counterpoint to the max. * Fugue 1 is a double fugue in E minor * Fugue 2 is a fugue in F major written as a da capo aria (ABA) * Fugue 3 in G major is light and dance-like * Fugue 4 in A minor is a fugue in strict counterpoint Ralph Sauer has once again done an extraordinary job of finding great music for our instrument and transcribing it in the most beautiful way possible. Appropriate for advanced performers. Each player has their own part as well as a study score. The 2nd part may be performed on a tenor with f-attachment or a bass trombone.

Lord Berners (1883-1950) was one of the most idiosyncratic and fascinating personalities in British music. He became a pioneer in the avant-garde when he wrote his first music whilst living in Rome as adiplomat during World War 1; Balanchine choreographed his first two ballets and Ashton the next three; in 1931 he had the first exhibition of his paintings; in 1934 he published the first volume of his autobiography, FirstChildhood, and two years later his first novel, The Camel -- and three more novels came out in 1941. On top of all this during the 1930s, known as 'the versatile peer', he increasingly gained a reputation as an eccentric, which he realised was good for publicity.A wry humour pervades everything, as in these three sets of piano duets. Berners' songs and piano music, too, are as full of whimsical references as those of Erik Satie -- he hasbeen called the English Satie and the Ronald Firbank of music. Berners was not prolific but whatever he did was stamped with his own fastidious accomplishment. He may not have been the last eccentric but his music, writingand painting combine to make him one of the most rewarding.

This delightful melody from Cantata 208 was originally scored for solo voice, two flutes and continuo. The pastoral subject was played by the flutes in thirds and sixths and it is this melody that has been faithfully retained in this arrangement for piano duet.

The Easy Piano Duets Series presents a selection of sensitively arranged piano duets, each with optional backing tracks. In the interests of playability, these two wonderful tunes have been simplified, while still allowing the spirit of the originals to shine through. The keys have been transposed to C major and the Baroque rhythmic notation updated to improve readability. The optional backing tracks include both a performance of each piece, plus tracks that allow the student to practise alone both â??slowlyâ?? (with a metronome click) and â??a tempoâ??, before putting the whole piece together â?? ideally in the company of a real person!â??Sleepers Awake!â?? (from â??Wachet aufâ?? BWV 140)â??Sheep May Safely Grazeâ?? (from â??The Hunting Cantataâ?? BWV 208).

These well-loved tunes have been around for a long time. Perhaps the oldest is Nobody Knows the Trouble I've Seen, a Negro spiritual that may have been written by slaves. Others come from the latter half of the 19th century and from the turn-of-the-century era that produced the precursors of jazz. The unifying factor in selecting these particular tunes, apart from the fact that every American seems to know them, is that they have been constantly recreated by jazz performers, from the birth of jazz to the present day. There is an immediate link from the improvisor to the mood, structure, or chord structure (sometimes all three!) of these tunes that allows for a free-flowing personal variation on these timeless themes. Titles: Down By The Riverside * Little Brown Jug * Bill Bailey * Peg O' My Heart * A Tisket, A Tasket * Take Me Out To The Ballgame * Nobody Knows The Trouble I've Seen * Frankie & Johnny.

Beethoven's Romance in F Opus 50 has been a staple of Violinists for over 210 years, having been written in 1798. The F-major Romance is a tender, adagio cantabile movement full of beauty, requiring grace, poise and elegance to perform properly. It has been said that it could have been titled Song Without Words, the music being so lyrical of character. 'Romance' may have been written as a slow movement to a Violin Concerto that was never completed. This arrangement by Gordon Cherry is a wonderful addition to the Euphonium repertoire.
Almost 10 minutes in length, this work for advanced performers will be a great addition to any recital.

âOboe Concerto 1945, inspired by an American soldier, (oboist from Chicago)â â was what Richard Strauss noted down. And the oboist 0nd soldier with the American occupation John de Lancie had indeed asked Richard Strauss in May 1945 whether he had ever thought of writing an oboe concerto. Strauss answered in the negative, but soon got to work anyway. In October 1945, he had completed the score in Swiss exile; the premiere took place in Zurich in 1946. Not until 1948 did the first edition appear in London, presumably for the most part without the composer's involvement, for both the printed score and the orchestral parts exhibit numerous errors. Some of these have been known for a while, though others have only now been discovered by Hansjörg Schellenberger through his exact reconciliation of the autograph full score with the autograph particella. The world-class oboist thus presents this concerto for thefirst time in a Henle Urtext edition in both full score and piano reduction!
