With degrees from Sarah Lawrence College and Columbia University, Wallach went on to receive the first ever doctorate in composition from the Manhattan School of Music. She has won first prize in the Inter-American Music Awards, has had her String Quartet nominated for a Pulitzer Prize, and was commissioned for a 200-voice oratorio by the New York Choral Society for its 35th Anniversary season. Wallach also serves as pre-concert lecturer for the New York Philharmonic. Her works have been published by E.C. Schirmer, C.F. Peters, and others. The aptly named Glimpses (1981), a series of brief vignettes for orchestra, shows her developing style and command of orchestral forces. Performance materials available on rental.

In 2014, I enjoyed a wonderful residence at the Ucross Foundation in Clearmont,Wyoming. Ucross is an artist colony that gives writers, composers, and visual artists thegift of time, space, and support to follow their artistic pursuits; we are provided withstudio space, housing, and meals so that we can work continuously on our projects. I havebeen in residence at numerous artist colonies; however, nothing in my previousexperiences prepared me for living in such isolated, wild country. Ucross is situated on a20,000-acre cattle ranch at nearly 4,000 feet in elevation with fewer than 150 peopleliving within the town. But what Clearmont lacks in population, it makes up forabundantly and spectacularly in wilderness and wildlife. I composed the sextet Postcardsfrom Wyoming to offer three glimpses of what I found to be the most striking aspects ofmy residence. The Solitude of Stars, the third and final movement of the original sextet, was inspired by the stunning nightly display of the heavens above. Without city lightsdimming the night sky, countless stars shone brightly over the vast expanse of the prairie. This edition is part of The Solitude of Stars Project that I undertook during the 2020COVID-19 pandemic, which consists of a series of arrangements that I made forcolleagues and friends. In 2014, I enjoyed a wonderful residence at the Ucross Foundation in Clearmont, Wyoming. Carl Vine's Concerto for Orchestra was premiered to critical acclaim by the West Australian Symphony Orchestra in October 2014. Vine describes the way the 20-minute work (like his recent piano trio The Village) evolves organically through a chain of episodes to create a web of melodies and harmonies that are related, but not identical. This network of ideas is tied together by strong lateral bonds but remains fluid and flexible, creating a series of fleeting glimpses---what Prokofiev called visions fugitives---abstract patterns glimpsed in the half-light or imagined behind clouds.

Invaluable Glimpses Schumann's close collaboration with the David quartet, together with the valuable advice of his friend Mendelssohn Bartholdy, led the composer to make extensive changes to the Streichquartette op. 41 before publication in December 1842. The present edition is hence to be thought of as a critical Urtext edition; it offers in fact to those interested, an invaluable glimpse into Schumann's creative process and his striving for the final form of his string quartets. All the deletions, changes, and the original phrasing were carefully worked out in detail, restored, and editorially identified in the music text. A detailed preface giving the geneses of the works, as well as pages of the autograph score in facsimile, complement the edition. The parts are of course so configured in the reliable Breitkopf quality that the quartets can also be performed today in the traditional form. The present edition was also used for the Leipzig String Quartet's 2010 CD recording.

A richly texture, ruminative work. Glimpses of musical memories come in and out of focus in this evocative piece.Clarinet, Violin, Piano Duration: 14' Composed: 2018 Published by: Distributed Composer.

“Stillae†was composed for the “Jugendkonzertchor der Chorakademie Dortmund†who won first prize in the “Mårten Jansson Choral Competition†in 2018. The American poet Charles Anthony Silvestri wrote the lyrics. The poem is divided in four short clear Latin verses resembling the form of medieval poetry. The first three verses offer short glimpses of Mary’s life with Jesus described through different kinds of drops – Stillae:Drops of water – when she bathes her tiny sonDrops of tears – when she cries while pondering his fate, and finallyDrops of blood – that fall on her face from the crossThe music and lyrics paint this transition from happiness to worry and deepest grief, concluding in a final verse; a still prayer to Mary to take our drops, our prayers, and offer them to Jesus.

Much of Jeanine Yeagers original music allows sensitive performers to richly express experiences and feelings where words fall short. This is equally true of the nine diverse piano solos found in this collection. Represented styles including 1. Intensely personal (Of Things Not Spoken, Remember Me, Intense Journey, Longing), 2. Introspective works (My Space, A Gentler Time, Just a Song!) and 3. Showy, energetic barn-burners (Lighten Up!, and Running Wild) for contrast.

Preface The three movements of the quartet may be perceived as three different expressions of an unstable core: an inherent unrest leads to frequent changes of direction. The first movement is full of dramatic contrasts: it is followed by a second movement, whose basic mood of meditative rest is challenged by occasional centrifugal utbursts, while the third movement takes the inherent conflicts to a higher level, contrasting material of introspective lyricism with excessively pathetic moods. The final way out is a retrograde one, (back) into the source: through a constant accelerando-diminuendo the piece disappears into a vanishing point. The into the source of the titlemay be visualized as a reversed fountain-action: the broad fan-like spread of the first movement, a more coherent-solid second movement, and finally - in the third movement - a return-run, ever more vehemently, like a suction into the spring itself ... The musical motifs are varied: there are traffic-situations (which I heard!) with stomping and machine-like rhythms in different, but simultaneous tempi, and there are more abstract upwards and downwards half-tone-scales, with changing accents, creating glimpses of melodies. INTO THE SOURCE, String Quartet No. 9, was composed on a double-commission from the Orion Quartet and the Vertavo Quartet. The premiere performances took places in Santa Fe in 2002 and in Oslo in 2003. Per Norgard.

The Finnish composer Saariaho compositions are said to be confronted with the darkest and most dazzling dimensions of your subconscious, and glimpses of the existential journeys she has made. The Guardian . Solar was composed by Kaija Saariaho . This incredibly modern piece uses electronic instrument and classic Orchestral instruments together creating a fusion of sound. The electronic material can be downloaded via a link provided with the score The electronics for this piece can be run with a Max patch including a simulation of the sampler used in the original version and a general reverberation. In both rehearsal and performance the sound engineer/musician should read thescore and adjust the relative levels of the ensemble and electronics on the mixing desk, according to the given context(musical interpretation, equipment, acoustics of the performance space).
