Psalm 47 was commissioned by the Sigma Alpha Iota Chapter of Hardin Simmons University (Abilene, Texas), Suzanne Watts, conductor, back in 1978. I was a graduate student at the time, and the premiere was a great success. Consequently, the work has received many performances since that time; however, it remained unpublished until now. In a modified tripartite structure, the psalmist uses the imperative verb tense as a command to the people: (you clap), (you shout), (you sing) to exemplify that praise and joy should be public, intelligent, cheerful, and constant. The psalmist admonishes that praise and joy are visual, aural, palpable, and most definitely contagious. The contrasting slow section with a soprano solo should be like an accompanied arioso, where the soloist is supported by lush, major/minor seventh chords in inversion (accompanied recitative). The soloist actually becomes the narrator in this section, the preacher or deliverer of the news that the people will be protected, sustained and blessed. The rapid tempo of the A-section returns and the staggered entrances in the last section/coda indicate the ecstasy knowing that belief can manifest itself in individualized, energized, emotional responses that can change the world. Rise up and claim the power of JOY!.Psalm 47A was commissioned by the Sigma Alpha Iota Chapter of Hardin Simmons University (Abilene, Texas), Suzanne Watts, conductor, back in 1978. I am the secret fire in all things, scored for SSAA divisi and two soprano soloists, was premiered by the Vancouver Chamber Choir, Jon Washbun, conductor, in November 2008. The Hildegard von Bingen text, translated by Wilson Hall (deceased professor of English at Shorter College in Rome, Georgia and dear friend), is a text that fosters many opportunities to depict the mysterious nature of God, His transcendence into all the human experience, and the hope, through vulnerability, that resonates in the gravamen for individual transubstantiation through the struggles inherent in Life's Stuff. This composition celebrates the transforming power of spirituality, the evolution of the human spirit when one amalgamates with unknowing, and the ecstasy that saturates Life when one acknowledges the God Presence already within.  .I am the secret fire in all things, scored for SSAA divisi and two soprano soloists, was premiered by the Vancouver Chamber Choir, Jon Washbun, conductor, in November 2008. More and more people are looking for a way to offset the demands of everyday life by making music. Particularly welcome are pieces that often evoke poetic, meditative moods and are good for the soul through their simple harmonies. The majority of the pieces in this book arose from this premise. They also explore the multi-faceted expressive possibilities of the piano as well: they can convey exuberance, comfort, joy, longing, compassion, mourning, anger and ecstasy, but also mystical moments. Short programmatic annotations in the musical text, along with the titles and the music on the audiotracks, awaken inner relationships that infuse more spirit into ones playing. And the possibility of expressing feelings while playing can also be a motivation to expand ones own piano-technical resources.,,Dans la selection de Michael Proksch, tout est propice a l'improvisation, plus classique que reellement jazz. Le CD joint donne une bonne idee.(Pianiste).

In composing Celestial Wind, Sirota was inspired to write a brilliant toccata based upon Acts 2:2-3: And suddenly there came a sound from heaven of a rushing and mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. Sirotas aim was not merely to imitate the sound of rushing wind and flames, as to evoke the sense of awe and ecstasy that must have been felt by Jesus disciples at this manifestation of the Holy Spirit.

Modern Norwegian composer Rolf Wallin's 'Drei Gedichte' arranged for a soprano voice and piano accompaniment. These three poems were written between 1900 and 1908, and they are very different in terms of form, subject matter, and atmosphere. Liebes-Lied is about a strong but painful love, Buddha in der Glorie, a description of religious ecstasy, quite unusual in the works of Rilke, and Sluss-stuck, about death, which exists in the midst of us, in the middle of life.

The piece was composed at the request of violinist Eszter Perenyi, my colleague at the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music, and was several times amond the optional pieces of the yearly violin competition for students. It was inspired by the famous 63rd poem of Catullus that tells the story of Attis: the hero of the Greek mythology arrives at the Mount Ida in Frygia, to the invitation of the goddess Cybele, and becomes her lover. The Gallas, certitude priests of Cybele chase him into delirious dance, by the end of which he castrates himself. On waking from his paralysed dream he entreats in vain for his virility and freedom to Cybele, he will remain servant of the goddess for eternity. My work tells the story in four parts: 1) Attis' ecstasy 2) Dance of the Gallas 3) Attis' dream 4) Attis' entreaty. The Catullian galliambic metric that first appears in the 'prologue' of the piece, becomes the organisational principle of almost all musical aspects of it. (Hungaroton HCD 32484).
