Trio SKU: BR.EB-5401 Composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Edited by Paul Klengel. Chamber music; Softcover. Edition Breitkopf. This new edition of the five Mozart Divertimenti K. 229(439B) offers alternative performance possibilities:- original version: 3 Basset Horns- traditional, standard version: 2 Clarinets and Bassoon- new version, for group teaching: 3 Clarin. Serenade/divertimento; Classical. Score. 12 pages. Breitkopf and Haertel #EB 5401. Published by Breitkopf and Haertel (BR.EB-5401). ISBN 9790004164020. 9 x 12 inches. Mozart's Five Divertimenti KV 439b (App. 229) were presumably composed between 1783 and 1785. They are widely prevalent in various scorings. Originally, the works were written for 3 basset horns (2 basset horns or 2 clarinets and bassoon) - early printings shortly after Mozart's death are known as sources. The arrangement and setting by the composer and conductor Paul Klengel not only opens up a different instrumental genre for the pieces. The usage of string instruments with different pitch ranges results also in a change of register that decisively alters the sound character.
Paul Klengel arranged only four of the Five Divertimentos for strings. $17.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 3 to 4 weeks

On the island of Elba, off the coast of Italy, I composed this work as the sun was rising over the ocean in the mornings and gently sifting through the clouds against the lingering fog. As the piece developed, it took on a shape of its own and gradually became centered around diminished chords and the interval of a tri-tone (diminished 5th). I love these chords for their angst and for their sadness, but also for their flexibility. My piece is very textural in nature; and yes, it does have a melody of sorts, and yet, this melody comes and goes, and is never quite grasped until the end. Portions of it are repeated and spun out creating layers of sound without the heaviness of form. It is indeed a depiction of mist, where one minute you see things and the next they are gone. As you move through the piece, you find that the trumpet is also an antagonist, creeping in with a haunting cry; a reminder of things unsettled. Throughout the piece, we are quietly searching. We search for a tonal center for stability, and also for a melody that will make us feel fulfilled. Once found, we hold them for an instant, and then like the clouds and like life itself, they are gone. We are warmed by their presence and saddened by their loss. I hope that you will reflect upon your own memories of life's quiet moments as we enjoy the world premiere of this new work together. Mist is not a piece to be analyzed, but rather a piece to be experienced and absorbed. As you listen, release your mind, embrace your emotions, close your eyes, and allow the mist to creep in. $95.00 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

Preface: Prévost, Paul / Macdonald, Hugh. Text: Leterrier, Eugène / Vanloo, Albert. WithL'Etoile, Chabrier composed a light-hearted opera which has increasingly enjoyed revivals in recent years. The plot is introduced by King Ouf I who offers his subjects an execution every year on his birthday. Unfortunately the problem now arises that no crime has recently been committed which might serve as a reason for an execution. Finally, he finds a would-be victim in the young Lazuli. However, according to predictions by the astrologer Siroco, Lazuli's fate is closely linked to the king's own life. The comic opera is further bolstered by a story of mistaken identities which involves a great deal of diplomacy, a love story and a large number of refined, yet catchy melodies. Chabrier was a master of the sensitive and complicated art of musical comedy, a field where he can be compared in equal measure to Offenbach, Rossini and Mozart.
This vocal score is based on the full score edited by Hugh Macdonald which is published as part of the seriesL'Opera francais. - Authoritative Urtext edition based on the seriesL'Opera francais - Original French text with a German singing translation - Comprehensive foreword (Ger/Eng/Fr)

Over the years Janácek’s uvre has increasingly received the recognition it so richly merits and performances of his works are becoming more and more frequent. This development is, however, offset by a manuscript tradition so disorderly that some of Janácek’s works continue, as before, to be played in versions which are heavily adapted, corrupt or otherwise contrary to the composer’s intentions. Thus, a critical edition of Janácek’s music is indispensable for scholars and performers alike.
This edition presents an authentic printed text based on all available sources for each work. In addition to the musical text, each volume also contains a critical report (Czech/German), a rendition of deleted or rejected versions, and a comprehensive appendix of facsimiles.

Sacred vocal music, Feasts of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Hymns in praise of the Virgin Mary. Choral Score. Composed 1876/1877. Op. 58. 36 pages. Duration 90 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 27.293/05. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.2729305). ISBN 9790007181086. Text language: Latin. Antonin Dvorak's impressive Stabat Mater for soloists, chorus and orchestra is probably the best-known of the composer's sacred works. Some painful experiences - in 1875 his first daughter died, and in 1877 he lost two other children in quick succession - may have led to Dvorak's preoccupation with the suffering of the Mother of God, who stands weeping beneath the cross of her son. The music enters into the different moods of the liturgical texts with great sensitivity. Nine movements in slow to moderate tempi serve as a kind of Passion meditation, before the ecstasy of a vision of the resurrection wins the upper hand at the end of the tenth movement. With our newly-published arrangement for chamber orchestra (flute, oboe, clarinet, horn, bassoon, timpani, and strings), smaller choirs now have the opportunity of performing this work without the choir being drowned out by a large-scale symphony orchestra. The symphonic character of the work is nevertheless preserved. This scoring offers an optimal balance between transparency and orchestral sound. All vocal parts (soloists and chorus) are identical with the original version. Vocal score and choral score can be used also together with the original version, which is in preparation. $11.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

Latin. One of his later works, Haydnâs Missa in tempore belli, composed in 1796, is also referred to as the âPaukenmesseâ (Kettledrum Mass) through the use of timpani in the Agnus Dei. For the Vienna premiere, Haydn added flutes, clarinets and horns to the score, so that in terms of sound the soloists and the chorus have to hold their own against a truly large orchestral apparatus. In this case, practicing with the Carus Choir Coach is of course recommended for a good vocal presence.
The Carus Choir Coach offers choir singers the unique opportunity to study and learn their own, individual choral parts within the context of the sound of the entire choir and orchestra. For every vocal range a download containing each choir part is available. The Carus Choir Coach is based on recorded interpretations by renowned artists who have performed the work from carefully prepared Carus Urtext editions. Each choir part is presented in three different versions:
Original recording Coach: each part is accompanied by the piano, with the original recording sounding in the background Coach in slow mode: the tempo of the coach slows down to 70% of the original version â through this reduction passages can be learned more effectively. Performers: Ann Hoyt (soprano), Kirsten Sollek (alto), Daniel Neer (tenore), Richard Lippold (basso) â Trinity Church Choir, Rebel Baroque Orchestra â J. Owen Burdick. Beethoven described his Missa solemnis several times as his greatest work. Coming from the heart, it was intended to touch and move audiences. Beethoven worked long and intensively on the composition in order to give what he felt was adequate expression to the text. In its length and musical demands, the Missa solemnis goes far beyond typical liturgical settings; for good reason, the premiere took place in a concert hall. With this arrangement for chamber orchestra (flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn, trumpet, trombone, timpani and strings, plus organ ad lib), smaller choirs, as well as choirs with more limited resources of space or finance, can now perform this work too. However, the symphonic character and wide dynamic range of the work remain. The scoring of 7 instead of 18 winds offers an optimal balance between transparency and orchestral sound. All the vocal parts (soloists and chorus) are identical with the original version, so that the vocal score and chorus score of that version can be used. Major mass can also be performed by smaller choir Wind and brass parts of the original version reduced to just seven single instruments Vocal scores and choral scores from the original version can be used. carus plus: the work (original version) is available in carus music, the choir app, and in the practice CD series Carus Choir Coach. Published by Baerenreiter Verlag (BA.BA09099). ISBN 9790006564330. 31 x 24.3 cm inches. Key: E minor. Preface: Todd, R. Larry / Brown, Clive. Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto op. 64, is a key work of the 19th century, adhering to the classical style of Beethoven while pointing the way to the romantic ethos of Brahms. It has long been known that Mendelssohn performed the work with three soloists in succession: Ferdinand David, who worked closely with the composer during its composition and played it at the première; the ‘child prodigy’ Joseph Joachim; and Hubert Lonard, a young Belgian virtuoso about whom little is known.
As proof sheets for the Violin Concerto in E minor were long considered lost, it could be described as somewhat of a sensation when proofs for the solo violin part resurfaced together with a letter from Mendelssohn to Lonard.
The letter informs us that the composer invited Lonard to his home in Frankfurt in order to make his acquaintance. It was already known that Mendelssohn had given proof sheets to David; now we know that he also gave some to Lonard.
The recently discovered proofs reveal how Lonard played the concerto with Mendelssohn on that memorable evening in February 1845. Besides containing bowing marks and fingering, they also show how Lonard executed shifts of position and where he employed open strings. Furthermore modifications made to dynamic markings and additional legato bowing are shown.
It is safe to assume that all of this was done with Mendelssohn’s approval. That the young violinist made a positive impression on the composer is confirmed in the latter’s correspondence following their joint performance. Mendelssohn is full of praise for Lonard’s playing and offers to lend his support in finding employment in Germany.
This revised edition of the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto (only the orchestral parts remain unchanged) includes a separate booklet on performance practice.
The editor, Clive Brown, is an acknowledged expert on Romantic performance practice.
