Lead trumpet range is to written G on top of the staff. Includes optional clarinet and vibes parts too!

There are lots of swing charts based on blues changes. This one is in a class of its own. An attention-grabbing intro leads to the unison ensemble melody, followed by a few choruses where all sections trade off with the lead line. The open solo section can feature any instrument with suggested solos included. After a solo spot for drums things get even more interesting and fun! The dynamic level comes way down and your bass player gets to shine with some tasty written solo licks. The final ensemble chorus builds to a shout section that really - SHOUTS! A very impressive, effective and playable chart!

Carl Strommen, one of the most prolific educational writers, has penned the funk chart that students will love. The chord structure is blues in F which can feature any of your soloists. This composition features Carl's trademark rhythmless soli sections. There is a pretty fat chance that this will be a big seller for Carl. Solos are not written out for these F blues changes.

We welcome Kris Berg to the Kendor family of writers with this fun and energetic chart written in a New Orleans 2nd line groove over a C7 blues. After the band trades licks with the drummer, the chart roars to a big ending, thunderous applause, and your audience marchin' down the aisles! The written or ad lib solo section can be played by anyone. Featuring Kendor Konvertible scoring for 9-17 players, each set includes a guitar chord chart by Jim Greeson and optional flute, clarinet, horn in f, tuba and vibes parts. Duration 4:00.

This is a great contest/concert selection for band's at this grade level. Once the notes get under the fingers it swings hard and shows off the whole band. The ranges and rhythms are very reasonable, but the excitement generated is off the charts! The intro is a piano vamp, followed by the saxes playing the melody in unison. The trumpets then join the altos, while the bones and tenors play some background punches. The bones and saxes trade off playing the bridge, and then full ensemble plays up to the open solo section. Following the solos, everything quiets way down and the gradual buildup to a real flag-waver of an ending begins.

An exceptionally beautiful ballad feature for solo trombone or tenor sax. Rhythmic and technical demands are minimal, allowing rehearsal time to focus on musicality and interpretation. Frequent trading off between the soloist and band help limit fatigue. Solo and rhythm section parts are written out. You'll get big returns on a very little investment of time with this outstanding ballad.

Fashioned after the playing of J.J. Johnson and Kai Winding, this moderate swing original casts the trombone section in a variety of starring roles -- solis, trading 'fours' with the rest of the band, and a short ad lib solo. Some sax soli work and a short trumpet solo give the 'bones a chance to rest their chops before the chart goes out strong. Duration 3:50.

Bring your trumpets out front and let them herald in the holiday season, starting with a fanfare that leads into a fun, swinging version of this well known carol. It's easy to work up, and it's playable with limited instrumentation so it will sound fine with as few as 2 trumpets. After playing through the tune, the bones, bass & bari get a fun riff going. Then the saxes and trumpets trade twos over it. This leads up to a key change and the trumpets lead the way to the end. No solos.

Veteran composer Carl Strommen’s Jumpin’ Jack Jive opens in a bright, brisk four and soon switches to a trademark two feel, reminiscent of the great big bands of yesteryear. The solo section features tenor and alto, and can be opened up for a variety of soloists of the director’s choosing. The charts builds and builds to a big finish! A great one for festival and concert use. Swing on with Jumpin’ Jack Jive!.

Tailor-Made, sounding minor in nature, is based on the Dorian mode of the major scale. Its solo section provides opportunity for more advanced soloists to progress through the changes or equally effective, can be navigated more easily with exclusive use of the C Dorian scale. The shout chorus features juxtaposed measures without the rhythm section against measures with the full ensemble. Following the shout, your drummer is given a chance to shine as the drums trade solo measures with the full ensemble. Scored for full big band, it may also be played with limited instrumentation. No matter the size of the ensemble, this chart will be a perfect fit for your concerts, and you will find it Tailor-Made for your band!

Young jazz bands will have lots of fun developing their swing chops with this creative and very easy chart! Trumpets get a chance to use the wa-wa effect, piano gets to show off with short written fills, and the drummer has a short (or extended) solo spot. The open solo section (written solos included) allows the soloist(s) to trade-off with the band background parts, so they don't have to solo for the full 12 bars. Paper Jam is effective, easy, fun - and highly recommended!

Agent Undercover is a fun rock chart that will be the one your students ask to play again each and every year! Based around accessible blues licks, this is a great way to get your group playing quickly and with confidence. Bryce Newton’s experience with young jazz ensembles is evident in the scoring of this piece, and the solo section is written with young improvisers in mind, so that students can trade and begin improvising in small segments. Educational, and very fun!
