Contained within this volume, the serious advanced pianist will find a wealth of artistically satisfying repertoire for the left hand that will not only strengthen the technical development of the left hand, but also make for impressive showpieces on the recital stage. This volume includes hitherto unpublished gems like Earl Wild's Etude No. 3 for the Left Hand Alone (Based on Gershwin’s The Man I Love) and Ruth Wylie's Soliloquy for Piano, Left Hand, Op. 23, as well as established classics of the repertoire like Godowky's Chopin arrangements, and even modern and contemporary additions like Bartok’s Etude for the Left Hand and Corigliano's Etude No. 1 for the Left Hand Alone.

Lansky's four-movement concert work for piano duo and orchestra was written for director Justin Brown and the Alabama Symphony and the piano duo Quattro Mani. Frank J. Oteri (NewMusicBox) reviews the recent Bridge recording Paul Lansky: Imaginary Islands, writing in depth of the composer's reputation for electronic music. The three works included on the album are, however, written expressly for carbon-based life forms, according to Lansky, and represent a dramatic departure. They are his very first compositions for orchestra, despite sounding like they were written by someone who has had a lifetime of experience taming this behemoth ensemble! While the title Imaginary Islands may evoke a specific mental imagery, Oteri reminds us, Most people associate the word island with isolation and tranquility, but it’s important to remember that Manhattan, Montreal, Hong Kong, and Singapore are also all islands. While Lansky’s second island offers opportunities for reflective contemplation, his first and especially his third are sprawling urban soundscapes that offer many reasons for numerous return trips. Duration: 21'.

Performed by singers like Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington, Frank Sinatra, and more, the lighthearted lyrics of this familiar standard remind us that smiling is contagious. With plenty of jazz stylizations built into the melody and a Kirby Shaw scat bridge, this Michael Bublé-inspired treatment would make a grand finale, encore, or signature song. When you're smilin', the whole world smiles with you!
