A beautiful vocal work of about 2 1/2 to 3 minutes in length transcribed for 8-part antiphonal trombone choir by Ralph Sauer, L.A. Philharmonic Principal Trombone. Handl's Pater Noster is not too difficult and would be appropriate for almost any level group including high school level. The range is conservative with an occasional high B-flat. Jacob Handl was an Austrian composer of Slovene descent, born in Ljubljana. Choirmaster to the Bishop of Olmutz 1579-1585, he lived thereafter in Prague as an organist.

Schubert's delightful lyrical and bouncy Scherzo from Symphony No. 9 (The Great C major) has been arranged for 8-part Trombone Ensemble by Randall Malmstrom. Arguably Schubert's greatest symphonic work, the Great C major is almost an hour in length, bursting with melody from every corner. Malmstrom's arrangement of the complete Scherzo movement really works and is appropriate for advanced performers. Be prepared for a joyous workout!

The Chorale from the Finale of Symphony No. 2 (Resurrection) by Gustav Mahler is taken from the fifth movement, lasting over an hour. The Chorale is actually a quote from the Dies Irae, which Mahler called the march of the dead. Also added in is the Resurrection theme which is almost a fanfare. This excerpt from the Symphony features the low brass which makes this arrangement by Randall Malmstrom so meaningful. For advanced performers, this work will add another dimension to your concert.
