Centenary 2019 is a three-movement suite based on a local folksong and was commissioned by Chr. Fanfare De Lofstem, from the Dutch province of Friesland, on the occasion of its 100th anniversary in 2019. ‘AwakeningVillage’, the first movement, musically describes the waking up and coming to life of the village. ‘Bintje Monument’ was inspired by a famous sculpture that was placed to honour headmaster Kornelis Lieuwes de Vries (1854-1929) whodeveloped the well-known potato variety called ‘bintje’. The finale, ‘Journey into the Unknown’ refers to the band’s memorable 2011 concert trip to the United States of America, in which the composer combines elements of thefolksong and fragments from ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’. The piece consists of a wide range of playful and melodic sequences as well as some galvanizing rhythmical passages.

Het driedelige werk Centenary 2019 werd gecomponeerd in opdracht van Chr. Fanfare De Lofstem uit het Friese Sumar ter gelegenheid van het honderdjarig jubileum van de vereniging in 2019. Het is gebaseerd op een plaatselijkvolksliedje. In het eerste deel, ‘Awakening Village’, wordt verklankt hoe het dorp ontwaakt en tot leven komt. Deel twee, ‘Bintje Monument’, is ge nspireerd op een sculptuur ter nagedachtenis van hoofdonderwijzer Kornelis Lieuwesde Vries (1854-1929), die het bekende aardappelras bintje ontwikkelde. De finale, ‘Journey into the Unknown’ verwijst naar een concertreis die de muziekvereniging in 2011 naar de VS maakte. De componist laat elementen uit hetleidmotief en flarden van ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’ in het slotdeel van dit werk samenkomen. Het werk als geheel bestaat uit diverse speelse en melodische sequensen, alsook opzwepende ritmische passages.

Centenary 2019 est une commande de la Fanfare De Lofstem, un ensemble du village de Sumar, dans la province néerlandaise de la Frise, pour marquer son centenaire, en 2019. Cette suite en trois mouvements est fondée sur unechanson traditionnelle locale. Le premier mouvement, « Awakening Village » (Le village s’éveille), dépeint l’éveil et la reprise des activités du village. « Bintje Monument » (Le monument la Bintje) s’inspire de la célèbresculpture qui rend hommage Kornelis Lieuwes de Vries (1854-1929), un directeur d’école qui a créé une variété de pomme de terre bien connue, la Bintje. Jehan Alain (1911-1940) was a French organist and composer. The third volume of Alain's Organ Works comprise Prélude Profane and Lamento, as well as other favourites from the composer. Alain studied with organ virtuosos, Guilmant and Vierne, and was primarily an organist and composer of religious music. Whilst at the Paris Conservatoire, Alain won many prizes and his composition catalogue comprises some 140 works. The compositions in the third volume of organ works by Jehan Alain are full of life, mirroring his personality. From lively and comical pieces, to sensitive and unexpected works, Alain's pieces are diverse in musicality. Moreover, the composer exploits organ techniques, making for an exciting and varied collection for intermediate to advanced level organists.

Paul Richards, composition teacher at the University of Florida, works with diverse musical genres, and this is reflected in Medium Funk Prelude, a brief dance in which a small group of figures are transformed and tossed about in the ensemble. Its title was in fact inspired by tempo markings in a jazz fake book. An unconventional yet challenging and exciting work for the advanced high school or university ensemble.

This fantastic, stirring fanfare was written with the composer?s wish that the young musicians performing it would fly into the bright future like pheasants. The first part of the piece is a fanfare, which is suitable for opening ceremonies, and the second part is a lush chorale-like movement. Your band can perform both parts together or you could perform each one separately. This short opening work will start any concert in real style.

Aan dit werk liggen diverse muzikale inspiratiebronnen ten grondslag, zoals Broadwaymusicals, de Franse cancan en circusmarsen. Een Japans ritmepatroon komt in de eerste vier maten naar voren in het slagwerk. Het centrale deel bevatsolo’s voor xylofoon en piccolo, die in de smaak zullen vallen bij uw publiek, zeker wanneer de solisten al improviserend een aantal technische staaltjes laten horen. Indien gewenst kan de instrumentatie worden gewijzigd. Na hetsologedeelte komt het eerste thema terug en volgt er een opbouw naar een opwindend slot, waar iedere speler “yeah!” roept. Met wat aanvullende showelementen zal het applaus nog uitbundiger zijn.

Der japanische Komponist Yagisawa schrieb diese Fanfare zum 30jährigen Jubiläum einer Schule. Die ‘jungen Fasane’ im Titel sind ein Symbol für die Schüler, die ihrer Zukunft entgegen fliegen. Die Fanfare, die sich wunderbar als feierliches Eröffnungswerk eignet, tritt hauptsächlich im ersten Teil auf, während der zweite Teil einen choralähnlichen Charakter aufweist. Beide Sätze dieser bemerkenswerten Komposition können auch einzeln aufgeführt werden.

Cette fanfare brillante est commande du Lycée de Kashihara dans la Préfecture de Nara au Japon. L’emblème du lycée est un jeune faisan. l’écriture de cette pièce en deux mouvements, le compositeur a émis le vœu qu’ l’instar des faisans, les étudiants puissent voler vers un avenir radieux. Les deux parties peuvent s’enchaîner ou, au contraire, être interprétées séparément. Bien qu’il s’agisse d’une œuvre courte, l’histoire y est décrite avec authenticité et légèreté.

Questa fanfara brillante è un brano commissionato dal Liceo di Kashihara, della prefettura di Nara in Giappone. Scrivendo questo brano in due movimenti, il compositore ha espresso il desiderio che gli studenti possano volare come dei fagiani, verso un avvenire radioso.
