SATB chorus divisi, Soprano Sax (Clt), piano - Grade 2 SKU: CA.928400 Mittelalterliches Liebeslied. Composed by Wolfgang Konig. Carus digital: Extra digital products. Dû bist mîn. Full Score. Composed 2020. Duration 3.5 minutes. Carus Verlag #928400. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.928400). ISBN 9790007301002. German. Dû bist mîn is probably the best-known love song written in old German that has survived from the Middle Ages. It is often attributed to the famous poet Walther von der Vogelweide, who died around 1230. Unfortunately, the original 12th-century melody to which these verses were possibly has not been handed down. In his setting, Wolfgang König (*1947) delightfully interweaves the sounds of the medieval period with 21st-century music. Parallel fifths are juxtaposed with major-minor harmonies and saxophone solos embellish the choral movements that are also supported by a simple piano accompaniment. The choir consists of six voices divided into two groups. The antiphonal calls between the male and female singers mirror the love song's text: “Dû bist min, ich bin dîn: des solt dû gewis sîn†(You are mine; I am thine; of this you can be sure). $4.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

Fanfare Band - Grade 4 SKU: BT.DHP-1135396-020 Composed by Jacob De Haan. Concert and Contest Collection Brass Band en Fanfare. Concert Piece. Set (Score & Parts). Composed 2013. De Haske Publications #DHP 1135396-020. Published by De Haske Publications (BT.DHP-1135396-020). 9x12 inches. English-Dutch. This musical fantasy depicts the history of the Dutch fortified town of Elburg. The work begins with an atmospheric medieval picture of the Convent of St Agnes, the nunnery that was built in the first half of the 15th century. We hear the sound of the convent bells together with an upward motif, which will reappear later in the work. Next, the rest of Elburg is featured, including the fortress - from which the bells of the Sint-Nicolaaskerk (Saint Nicholas Church) are ringing. Then, cheerful sounds can be heard at the Vischpoort (Fish Gate), where a dancing group is performing a 16th century French folk dance (a branle des chevaux). We also hear old wagons rumbling over the town’scobble stones. Trade made this Hanseatic town a lively place. The repetitive upward motif first heard in the introduction now develops into a more distinct feature, reflecting the mercantile spirit of the town residents. Then follows the slow middle movement, in which the clock has been turned back to the time when Elburg was still lying on the Zuiderzee (which was a bay of the North Sea), and was struggling with floods. After the second St. Marcellus Flood (1362) and the water flood of 1367 it was decided that the town would be relocated. We now hear the theme of branle des chevaux in a minor key, followed by a death bell sounding in remembrance of the drowned citizens of the former town. Back in our own time, a slow, expressive theme in Baroque style mirrors Elburg’s tranquil places, such as the Feithenhof (Feithen Court) and the Weduwenhofje (Widow Court). Then the bustle returns with motifs from the introduction, followed by an attractive theme in which present-day Elburg is portrayed with its many tourists. Now, suddenly, there is an echo from the past, depicting the dramatic floods and wars that once plagued the town. This leads to the grand closing theme: branle des chevaux is heard for a final time from the perspective of the historic town centre.
$203.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

SATB Choir SKU: BT.MUSM570200641 Composed by Anne Boyd. Classical. Vocal Score. 64 pages. University of York Music Press #MUSM570200641. Published by University of York Music Press (BT.MUSM570200641). English. Jesus Reassures His Mother is a setting of medieval lyric poetry written anonymously in the 14th century. The poet recounts a vision of the young Mary rocking the infant Christ to sleep. The child requests his mother to sing a lullaby but, alas, knowing her child’s fate she is too sad to sing. Jesus tells her that all mothers worry about their children’s futures and insists that she should sing nevertheless. Mary recounts the visit of Gabriel and the events of Christ’s birth but reflects how sad it is to have delivered a child to such a fate. Jesus reassures his mother that he will be with his father in heaven where Mary will come to join Him at the end of time, there to livein eternal bliss. At this point Mary is persuaded by and echoes her child’s reassuring words, and she is joined in this by the choir (now representing us all). The vision fades away in the voice of the narrator whose loneliness and longing return. We learn that it is Christmas Day. This setting grows from the visionary mystical world inhabited by Julian of Norwich whose Revelations of Divine Love provided the inspiration for a work Anne Boyd composed in 1994. The medium has been expanded from the Song Company’s six solo voices used in the Revelations to the double motet choir of the Sydney Philharmonia who commissioned this work for their 75th anniversary. The parts of the infant Jesus, Mary, the Narrator and the angel Gabriel are taken by choir soloists: soprano, alto, tenor and bass. The work is situated in the context of Boyd ’s personal musical aesthetic which she describes as the intersection of Christian Love with Buddhist silence. $11.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 4 to 6 weeks

Mixed choir (STBar) and instruments (CHP) - easy SKU: HL.49006274 Sumer is icumen in. Composed by Carl Orff. This edition: Saddle stitching. Sheet music. Edition Schott. Classical. Choral Score. Composed 1972. 16 pages. Duration 4'. Schott Music #ED 6412-01. Published by Schott Music (HL.49006274). ISBN 9790001068093. Old English. The first known canon of European art music, now in the British Museum in London, is preserved in a thirteenth-century manusript from the English abbey in Reading: This is the so-called summer canon, whose verses greet the advent of summer. An accompanying note elucidates the artistic layer-like construction of the sound structure: a two-voice foundation of bell-like, swinging pendulum tones supports an upper structure of four voices which enter at equal time intervals. The note terms the canon rota * round -, which makes reference to the turning, circling movement of the constantly pulsating sound. The circular figure originates in a vital, ages-old moving force in music-making, and it demands a dance-like execution. But the canon is also, through the interaction of the strictly ordered voice entries, convivially bound musical form. Carl Orff was able to choose no better fitting musical form for the Greetings to Youth at the Olympic Games 1972 in Munich than the medieval rota. In the connexion of the singing voices with the Orff instruments, today in world-wide use, a testimony of European tradition sounds in a living present. $6.99 - See more - Buy online

String Quartet (Score) SKU: HL.14008409 Composed by Sir Peter Maxwell Dav...(+)
String Quartet (Score) SKU: HL.14008409 Composed by Sir Peter Maxwell Davies. Music Sales America. 20th Century. Book Only. Composed 1999. Chester Music #CH55681. Published by Chester Music (HL.14008409). This is - so far - the earliest composition by Davies to be available for performance, and mighty interesting it is. Written while he was still a young student, it provides a candid glimpse of the thing that concerned him: how music could be both forward-moving in the classical Western sense (this is, after all, a piece for a wholly conventional medium) and repetitive in the manner of the Indian and medieval music in which he was interested. What results is a singular machine geared to an intermittent ostinato in the first violin. This movement for string quartet was first performed by the Arditti Quartet in May 1983, as part of the 40th Anniversary Gala concert of the Society for the Promotion of New Music at the Barbican Hall, London. El barreño (The basin) is a folkloric dance which is found in various countries in Central America such as El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala. It is said to have originated in the 18th century in Cuscatlán, one of the provinces of El Salvador. The accurate name of the dance is not clear, and 'barreño' refers to 'barrio' (neighborhood) where this dance became very popular. This dance, reminiscent of the medieval traditions, develops around elements of courtship and fl irtation which are refl ected in the choreography. The choral version published in this edition stresses the rhythmic fi gures and syncopations typical of this dance. $3.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks
