Chamber Music Bassoon, Flute, Violoncello SKU: PR.114408750 Composed by Samuel Adler. Set of Score and Parts. With Standard notation. Composed 1995. 40+14+15+15 pages. Duration 20 minutes. Theodore Presser Company #114-40875. Published by Theodore Presser Company (PR.114408750). UPC: 680160013289. 8.5 x 11 inches. This work was commissioned by the Friends of the Phoenix Public Library for the dedication of the new Music Room and made possible in part through the funds from the Arizona Commission on the Arts, and Meet the Composer-Arizona. Diary of a Journey was composed between July and September 1995 for the group Arpeggio. During the early summer of 1995, my wife and I took a vacation to Prague and Budapest. It was the first trip for both of us to these former Iron Curtain capitals. The train ride through the beautiful country-side, the dilapidated small villages and towns, the magnificent architecture and the feeling of grandeur in the two major cities left an indelible impression on me. I longed to write some kind of an essay about it. Diary of a Journey is the result of some of these thoughts, which were sketched (musically) as we visited each place. There are four 'snapshots' or movements which do not portray a specific scene, but rather try to capture the impressions I gathered from the people we observed and met, and the many awe-inspiring experiences we had. Throughout the journey, I felt that people were clinging to a tenacious hope for a better future, no matter how long it will take to realize it. In the first movement each player portrays a struggle against all odds, and with great energy and even wit tries to overcome the obstacles, ending on one serene high note as a resting point after all the conflict. The second 'snapshot' tries to capture the deep faith of a newly regained religiosity. It is chant-like, and uses as its basic melodic material a famous Czech hymn, penned by the great religious reformer John Huss. This movement is played very freely, without bar-lines and with the hymn shining through the fervent chanting. The third movement is a kind of 'demonic' scherzo. Fast and furious, the three instruments vie with one another in a true perpetual motion frenzy, which is at times relieved by short, more pastoral melodic fragments. A rather wild ending should leave everyone breathless. Finally, in the fourth 'snapshot' the instruments play a bit more as a team, meaning that is that there is more melody with accompaniment, and more imitative music giving the impression of a group effort. The energy is still at a high level but long lyrical lines abound, accompanied and interrupted at times by undulating fast notes still depicting the struggle against the blight which any visitor notices all around these countries, yet also showing the determination of the people to conquer adversity. --Samuel Adler. $75.00 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

Choral Horn, Piano, alto, soprano 1, soprano 2 SKU: CF.CM9775 Composed by Jordan R Tucker. Duration 3 minutes, 40 seconds. Carl Fischer Music #CM9775. Published by Carl Fischer Music (CF.CM9775). ISBN 9781491164464. UPC: 680160923366. Key: C major. English. Psalm 139. The Night Will Shine as Day was commissioned by the Bedford Junior High Treble Choir under the direction of Hannah Ware in 2022. Composed with a spirit of perseverance and hopefulness, the text (paraphrased from Psalm 139) shares a message to have faith even during the darkest days, and a reminder that a light will always shine through the darkness if we have the courage to see it.Featuring a flowing piano accompaniment and lyrical (optional) horn solo, this piece was written with an equal relationship between the major mode and the minor mode (as demonstrated by the alternating piano harmonies, neither chord revealing a clear tonality.) This tonal obscurity represents the relationship between dark and light: a somewhat codependent relationship through which the melody struggles to find stability. As the understated chorus reveals and repeats the core message of the text, the melody gains confidence in its role among struggle between light and dark. The piece concludes with a final triumph of light over dark, this time with harmonic clarity and hopefulness for the future.  . $2.50 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 1 to 2 weeks

Like the Eagle, We Soar and Rise was commissioned by Yuying Secondary School Concert Band and Yuying Alumni Association for the 2010 centenary of the school’s foundation. The piece was named by a friend of the composer named Steven Phua, who originally suggested commissioning a new piece to Satoshi Yagisawa. The piece furthermore takes its name from the text of the Yuying Secondary School song. This composition is based on three different concepts: the first one demonstrates ‘The founders’ passion for education’; the second concept illustrates ‘Hardship in war time’; the third one ‘To the future’ describes the inner strength people find to overcome struggles. Thispiece concludes with a fanfare, which is the sound of hope that leads to a brighter future in a positive direction. The world premiere of this piece was conducted by Faizal Bin Othman, who is one of the leading educators in Singapore, and was performed by the Yuying Secondary School Concert Band.

$47.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

High voice and piano - Late Intermediate SKU: EC.9278 Composed by Joseph Stillwell. E.C. Schirmer Publishing #9278. Published by E.C. Schirmer Publishing (EC.9278). UPC: 600313311185. English. Songs of Love and Solace traces a young man's journey of love and heartbreak. The cycle of four texts by Irish poet William Butler Yeats begins with Brown Penny. This short poem depicts a young man infatuated with the idea of falling in love, and then becoming awestruck as he contemplates the depths of love’s power. In the second poem, He Wishes for the Cloths of Heaven, the poet, speaking to his beloved, realizes he has nothing of value to offer but his dreams. Tread softly, he implores, because you tread on my dreams.” In When You Are Old, we find our poet heartbroken. In his grief he peers into the future and foresees his beloved, in old age, remembering the depth and purity of their forsaken love: “But one man love the pilgrim soul in you, And loved the sorrows of your changing face.” In the final song, The Lake Isle of Innisfree,” the poet, saddened but wiser, wistfully resolves to escape the struggles and heartbreaks of his modern existence, and seek solace in the beauty and calm of nature. Songs may be performed separately.
