The Prelude, Hymn And Toccata 1987 is dedicated to, and was commissioned by the Nettle-Markham Piano Duo. It was the second work to have been written for them by the composer, the first being the Sonata For Piano Duet Op.92. This twenty minute work begins with Leighton's typical preludial double-dotted rhythms and contrapuntal textures; it develops into dark, passionate music and erupts into single and double cadenzas. The gentle Hymn is ushered in quietly and unfolds in long, rhapsodic sections, building up to more climactic cadenzas before dissolving gradually to an ethereal conclusion. The Toccata finale shows Leighton's masterly piano writing and contrasts biting, rhythmic motifs with sweeping, yearning elegiac phrases.

Black Earth was inspired by Kara Toprak, a popular song in Turkey. The composer of the song, Asik Veysel, was the last great Turkish balladeer. Fazil Say imitates the sound of the sax, a Turkish lute, through his selection of a muted effect in the Introduction and Epilogue. In contrast, folklore, Romantic piano style and jazz are entwined in the central sections to form a large-scale outburst. Now also available in an arrangement for two pianos.

On her 34th birthday, Clara Schumann was not only given a grand piano by her husband, but the latest music material as well. Among them was the one-movement Concert-Allegro with Introduction for Pianoforte and Orchestra Op. 134 in which the dominance of the solo instrument is even stronger than in the previous composition Introduction and Allegro appassionato Op. 92 which also consists of one movement only. With both works, Schumann continued the reformation of the solo concerto genre as intended.

This piece dates back to Vasks' Sturm and Stress period and was premiered in 1977. Freely notated over long passages, it uses both commonly notated passages and symbols as well as clusters. Vasks uses this wide range of modern piano technique for an expressive performance of both pianists. The performers have to cope with eruptions of powerful sounds and passages of great softness, while excitement alternates with contemplation.

Witaj Reksio! (Hello Reksio!) for two pianos is a collection of short music pieces for young performers. A few titles included in it refer to the themes from the well-known TV series for children, created by Lechoslaw Marszalek in the Animated Film Studi on Bielsko-Biala. The main hero is a very popular character in Poland: a nice dog Reksio who, together with his friends, has accompanied the successive generations, entertaining and educating them. The collection also comprises pieces that do not directly refer to the series. I hope the music will stir the listeners' imagination and will communicate all that the young performers want to tell them with their instruments. I wish all young friends interesting interpretation of my music. I also hope that you will create new interesting music stories that will be played and listened to with great joy.
