Six Duos (op. 48) for two Violins-These easy duets were published around 1796/97 by Pleyel???s own publishing house both as Six Duos faciles et progressives for two violins and as Six nouvelles Sonatines progressives for piano and violin though we do not know today which version came first. To this day the violin duets are favorites for use in violin lessons but also for making music at home. Though lesser known today around 1800 Ignaz Pleyel numbered among the most popular composers in Western Europe - which may at first come as a surprise but which to judge from these very appealing pieces manageable for advanced beginners is easily understandable. With an unmarked score and two marked solo parts the Urtextedition provides optimal material for use in teaching.

The compositions are dedicated toseveral people who are keeping that transatlantic musical flow in motion today.Sleep Sound Ida Mornin'Sleep Sound ida Mornin' is a very short duo for two violins based on a traditionaltune which I first heard in the Orkney Islands although played there on the banjo by a native of Kansas. My extended version with a slow introduction was first played in Boston on 29th January 1995 by Lesley Chen and NathanSchmidt members of the New England Conservatory's Preparatory Division during their annual weekend festival of contemporary music. This very remarkable and encouraging event was devised and organised by Rodney Lister to whomthis piece is dedicated.Duration c. 2 minutes.Atlantic DriftAn earlier even shorter version of Atlantic Drift written for violin and piano was first performed by PeterSheppard Skaerved and Aaron Schorr at the Royal Academy of Music London on 9th May 2006 in a concert to celebrate the 70th birthday of the American composer and transatlantic communicator Elliott Schwartz. The melody isoriginal though clearly influenced by the music and perpetual tides of the Hebrides. The title suggests that although the Gaels of yesteryear were rich inpoetic expression and the beauties of nature they were otherwise not very affluent. Rain and Mist was first performed at the Wigmore Hall London on 6th February 2005 by Corina Belcea and Laura Samuel.Duration c. 6

The second volume containing the final three of six terrific Sonatas for two Violins by Italian composer Gaetano Pugnani. One of the leading Violinists of the late 18th century he was a strong and skillful player with adistinctive style and whose talents led to many developments of the bow and advancements in bowing technique that we know today. With great depth and drama these sonatas reveal Pugnani’s ability at composing music for the Violinand are works that display his brilliance.

The name Carlos Gardel is still inextricably linked with tango music even today. It was not just because of his numerous compositions but also because of his charismatic voice and acting talents that Gardel as artist and performer of his own works became one of the most important musical personalities of the first half of the 20th century revered as a legend far beyond his adopted home of Argentina. Composer and Pianist Diego Marcelo Collatti was born in 1976 in Rosario Argentina and has his first Piano lesson at the age of seven. From 1992-1998 he studied composition at the Universidad Nacional De Rosario as well as in Buenos Aires. Since 2000 DiegoCollatti has lived in Austria where he studied composition with Professor Detlev Muller-Siemens at the University Of Music And Performing Arts in Vienna. In summer 2001 he founded the ensemble 'Minimum Tango' with which he made his radio debut the following October in a programme featuring his own arrangement of Adios Nonino by Astor Piazzolla. This was also released on CD as part of the compilation 'Lange Nacht Der Musik 2002'. Subsequently in spring 2003 his ensemble album 'World Music Argentina' was published by Universal Edition Vienna. A concert given by 'Minimal Tango' in October 2003 has since then been broadcast numerous times on the radio. Since 2003 Diego Collatti has given regular concerts at home and abroad and in 2007 a CD of his own compositions appeared 'Mitologia Urbana'. This book contains a collection of arrangements done by Diego of classic Carlos Gardel pieces arranged specially for the Violin.
