This work collects together basic musical gestures, and while not aiming at completeness, the twelve movements nevertheless form a loose cycle. They are compositional studies, insofar as they explore the ultimate limits of musical density, but also instrumental studies in the traditional sense: each individual movement sets a precisely defined technical and intellectual task for the performer. Composer and violinist János Lavotta (1764-1820), as a member of the ''virtuoso trio'' who played a great role in the history of Hungarian music, was one of the pioneers of verbunkos music. (The other two key players being János Bihari and Antal Csermák.) Although Lavotta s Violin Duos Op. 49 must have also been used for playing music at home, they show the composer's clear educational intent since the fourteen consecutive pieces gradually increase in difficulty in both technical and musical respects. The relatively short and undemanding melodies (which can be grasped by beginners), the sequence-like structure that makes practising individual technical elements possible, therhythmical-harmonic accompanying forms, as well as the temperately applied modulations are definitely suitable for beginner violinists to achieve significant progress in playing. According to music historian Mária Domokos, Lavotta's duos could have been included in the syllabus of any contemporary music school at the time. The first publication of Easy Duos - which came out on the 250th anniversary of the Lavotta's birth - was edited by János Dombóvári who provided the fingering and the necessary instructions for performance.

Playing in a duo is great fun for professional musicians and amateurs alike and can inspire creative music making. These pieces represent encounters between two people, with each of the nine compositions taking a specific moment or mood as its theme. Titles and indications of style and tempo will give performers ideas for interpretation, with markings relating to technique, articulation, bowing and fingerings offered for guidance. For players who would like to work out their own interpretation of these Dialogues, the second section of the book includes an unmarked score of the same pieces (with no indications of dynamics, fingerings, bowings, articulation or phrasing). This additional score is intended for use by instrumental teachers who wish to work with their pupils on marking up and arranging pieces of music for string instruments. These Dialogues are aimed at young people and adult musicians, too. They may be played as a cycle in the order given in this book, or else combined at will. Individual Dialogues may serve as useful teaching material, for student auditions or for inclusion in student concerts or chamber performances. Their musical content and brevity make these duets particularly suitable repertoire for youth music competitions. The overall duration of the set of Dialogues is about fifteen minutes.

Vier Stücke für Klavier by Mark Andre is a six-minute work for solo piano comprising four concise and intricate movements. Informed by the philosophy of Edmund Husserl and Martin Heidegger, and referencing the Gospel of Matthew, Vier Stücke für Klavier is focused on compositional instability, on the unfolding and ‘deterritorialisation’ of perceptual phenomena, which open fissures in the musical structure.
Vier Stücke für Klavier was commissioned by the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Seoul for “140 Years of German-Korean Relations” at the Seoul Arts Centre (SAC), as well as the Performing Arts Management Association of Korea and Asiana Airlines. The world premiere took place at Seoul Art Center on 23rd August 2023 with pianist Jong Hwa Park.
