The latest volume of Chamber Music for Violoncellos contains four sacral works, two of which were arranged for cello quartet by the editor of the series, Árpád Pejtsik. Both Angelus!, Liszt's piano piece of ethereal beauty, and the Kyrie of Mozart's Requiem, an irresistibly surging four-part fugue, are magnificent when played with the immensely rich sound of the four cellos. The second part of the volume contains a pair of inspired works by two prominent cellists and composers of the 19th century: Karl Friedrich Wilhelm Fitzenhagen's Consecration Hymn and Friedrich Grützmacher's Ave Maria. While an instrumental skill of at least intermediate level is required for playing the upper parts due to the use of higher positions, the lower parts can be performed by beginner cellists. The editor has assisted the appropriate interpretation of the works by providing the fingering and bowing. / 4 Violoncelles

Artiste: Arpad Pejtsik. The latest volume in this popular series expands the repertoire of intermediate violoncello pupils with some unusual transcriptions. This time the editor, Árpád Pejtsik, has arranged Ave Maria settings (one song and three choral works) for four cellos. The first is a classical music hit, Schubert's Ave Maria. Next is the transcription of a little-known piece from Liszt's vast output, an item from his 1879 choral work Rosario, followed by an arrangement of the first of Verdi's Quattro pezzi sacri, famous for being based on an ''enigmatic scale'' (scala enigmatica). The volume concludes with another evergreen, the Ave Maria from Rachmaninoff's All-Night Vigil. Rather than testing the players' virtuosity, these slow-moving, contemplative pieces serve more to improve intonation skills as well as a sense of form and proportion. Tout d'abord le mot Suite: il est minimaliste quand on sait à quel point ce terme a couvert dans le temps de très nombreuses compositions de danses tellement diverses ou inattendues. Campagnarde car j'ai voulu évoquer nos paysages français tellement variés, sublimes et émouvants. 'L'Ouverture éclair' évoque, en dépit d'un mauvais jeu de mots, une musique dont le côté carré n'est pas sans évoquer l'esprit de certaines écritures médiévales. 'Chemin faisant', c'est la poésie d'une promenade au milieu d'une campagne sereine et calme alors que 'Cheveux au vent' poursuit cette promenade tandis que la tempête s'est levée et que l'on lutte, penchés en avant, contre les éléments déchainés./ Répertoire / 4 Violoncelles

Wer kennt es nicht, das Lied ?Guantanamera'? Auf eine Melodie des kubanischen Musikstils Guajira und einen Text des dortigen Nationalhelden José Martí zurückgehend, wurde sie von José Fernández Díaz in den 30er-Jahren als Refrain zu Improvisationen über aktuelle Tagesthemen benutzt. Pete Seeger griff das Martí-Original 1963 bei einem Konzert in der New Yorker Carnegie-Hall wieder auf - es wurde zu einer ?Hymne' der amerikanischen Gewerkschaftsbewegung.
