Christian Lauba est né à Sfax (Tunisie) en 1952. Après ses études musicales au Conservatoire de Bordeaux où il obtient un Premier prix de composition dans la classe de Michel Fusté-Lambezat, il reçoit successivement le Prix de la SACEM en 1983 et la Médaille d'honneur de la ville de Bordeaux en 1984, puis en 1994 il remporte le Premier prix du Concours international de composition de Berlin (Institut für Neue Musik). Parallèlement, il dirige des master classes de composition et donne des conférences aux Universités de Maryland, Bowling-Green (USA) et Winnipeg (Canada). Christian Lauba a reçu de nombreuses commandes de l'Etat, de divers orchestres et de plusieurs ensembles de musique contemporaine.
