Composed between 1920 and 1921 Stories is a suite of ten short movements by Jacques Ibert (1890-1962) a neoclassical composer who won the Prix de Rome in 1919. Initially written for Piano only and later arranged for Saxophone and Piano this publication was commissioned by Alphonse Leduc editor and increased Jacques Ibert’s popularity. The ten pieces are as follows: 1. La meneuse de tortures d’or (The golden Turtles leader) 2. Le petit âne blanc (The little white donkey) 3. Le vieux mendicant (The old beggar) 4. “A Giddy girl” 5. He also was in charge of the French Academy in the Villa Médicis (Roma) and was later administrator for the Paris Opera.

Si le premier dépôt légal du Chant Lyrique n°5 pour saxophone et piano date du 31 octobre 1934, il est vraisemblable que Fernande Decruck l’ait composé au début des années trente. À la suite du succès de Chant Lyrique n°1 la compositrice a produit plusieurs pièces pour saxophone alto et piano. Quelques unes de ces compositions s’intitulent Chant Lyrique et furent parmi ses premières oeuvres pour instrument à vent. Son penchant pour le saxophone lui fût sans doute insufflé par Maurice, son mari, et saxophoniste pour le New York Philharmonic à l’époque dirigé par le chef d’orchestre Arturo Toscanini. En outre, elle fréquentait d'autres saxophonistes professionnels de l'époque tel que François Combelle, alors soliste pour la Garde Républicaine. La forme et style de Chant Lyrique n°5, n°3 et n°1 sont semblables. Chaque composition commence avec lenteur et lyrisme. Suit au milieu une exploration de styles et tempi variés. La composition finit sur une brève cadence pour le saxophone et un rappel de la mélodie de départ.
