As recorded on Tonight Show Band, Vol. 2 (Amherst), this chart won a Grammy for best big band arrangement. Holman took this great standard, put it in 3-4, and wrote scintillating counter lines that weave their way through the whole arrangement. Solo space for trumpet, and roaring ensemble passages make this chart something that should be in every big band library in the world. 5-5-4-3.

This chart was recorded by the Count Basie Orchestra on the CD I Told You So. This is yet another terrific Holman chart written for that band! A slow, swinging, Li'l Darlin - ish kind of chart, it has solo space for trombone and piano. This is an absolutely wonderful chart, written for and recorded by the great Basie Band. 5-5-4-4.

Bob Curnow has written some marvelous arrangements of Metheny/Mays music in the past, and this chart will surely tug at your heartstrings. This is a gorgeous melody, with a solid, contemporary feel to it. The chart features tenor saxophone throughout. It is a great feature for your tenor player. Brass ranges are very modest. 5-4-4-4 (with opt. 10-brass parts).

An absolutely stunning feature for flugelhorn and piano!! The great bassist Ray Brown wrote this gorgeous bossa/ballad, and Geoff Keezer gave it his special, inventive touch. One of the great jazz pianists collaborates with the premier jazz bassist to create a true work of art. And, it is not difficult to play. Range is very reasonable throughout, and, the transparent, light approach Geoff takes, makes it very playable. 5-4-4-4.

As written for and performed by the Buddy Rich Big Band, here is the long-missing chart that Holman wrote to feature Buddy on Drums and Pat LaBarbera on Tenor Sax. What a great chart! It is set in a quasi Rock Feel which shifts to Swing and back again. This is a very high-energy, exciting chart, and Buddy played it all the time! Your band will eat this one up. 5-4-4-3.

This one is way cool, but the energy it creates is hot. It's a medium tempo swinger in a minor key, reminiscent of some of the great Buddy Rich tunes. Just when you think you know where it's going, the harmonies change and lead to something new. The open section for solos of your choice is built upon very basic minor Blues changes. Plenty of dynamic contrasts, with a very soft sax soli leading into a shout chorus that really roars.
