English.
This one is way cool, but the energy it creates is hot. It's a medium tempo swinger in a minor key, reminiscent of some of the great Buddy Rich tunes. Just when you think you know where it's going, the harmonies change and lead to something new. The open section for solos of your choice is built upon very basic minor Blues changes. Plenty of dynamic contrasts, with a very soft sax soli leading into a shout chorus that really roars.

The chart has a bop-like melody performed as a duet by the alto saxophone and trumpet at the beginning, and then moves into the ensemble. There is a solo for alto saxophone, followed by a roaring shout chorus. There is some high trumpet work (a la Maynard), with optional lower notes included. As always, Willie gives us another incredible arrangement sure to be loved by all audiences! 5-4-4-3.

Powerhouse rock and a huge sound make this a real winner at the medium-easy level! Trombones and tenors get the melody first, with the altos and trumpets taking over at the bridge. The open solo section for any instrument is over a 2-chord vamp, but one simple scale is all the soloist(s) need to sound impressive. The shout chorus drives it home to a powerful ending. This one rocks hard, but plays easy!

As recorded by the Stan Kenton Orchestra on Sketches on Standards, this is a superb alto saxophone ballad feature, as arranged by Russo for Lee Konitz. Russo employs a dark, brooding, beautiful setting for Konitz's soaring saxophone. Included is a transcription of Lee's amazing solo. 5-5-5-3.
