English.
A major league swinger which gives the whole band a chance to shine. Lots of ensemble kicks with space for solo fills by the drummer and a nice solo section for any sax soloists of your choosing. The trombones have a nice soli and the whole band has interesting parts. A great opener for any concert or contest performance by good bands. It really is Twice As Cool.

This Oliver Nelson melody was originally recorded with a small group. Bob Curnow took this great tune and arranged it for big band in a very hip way! Set in an easy swing feel, this chart has quite a bluesy feel to it while providing a nice variation to the standard blues changes that you might not expect. There is solo space for alto saxophone, trombone and piano. In this pro (original) version, you will find Oliver Nelson's amazing solo transcribed and arranged as a trumpet soli. Very cool and fun to play! If you like Oliver Nelson's music, you'll love this chart! 5-4-4-3.

This medium-swing original by Bob Curnow focuses on alto saxophone and trumpet playing the melody. The piece has solos for those instruments and bass (all written out). There is nice use of counterpoint in the introduction and ending. The piece is light in texture and very appropriate for middle school bands. The highest written note for trumpet is B. All rhythm parts are written out. 5-4-4-4.

This is one of those superb Holman charts written for Stan Kenton in the early '50's that just swings like crazy. It starts off very soft and easy, with clever linear writing. It then roars into an alto sax solo, to be followed by a trumpet solo. A key change brings the chart to a great shout section before returning to the soft opening for a moment. Finishes easy and nice. A great chart! 5-5-5-4.

As recorded by the Stan Kenton Orchestra on Adventures In Standards CD, this is a wonderful, swinging chart on a great tune. As usual, Lennie does a great job arranging it, with terrific section work and limited ranges for the brass (written high D for 1st Tpt). There is a nice, lengthy solo for Baritone Sax. 5-5-5-3 (can be played with 8 brass).

Get down and in the groove with this hard swingin' in the pocket Bb blues! The eight bar interludes add a nice variation to the standard twelve bar form, and you can feature your star trumpet and tenor player on improvised solos that eventually trade twos. A perfect choice for any concert or jazz festival! Can't be beat!
