This is another great Oliver Nelson chart (it swings like crazy!). It starts in 3/4 and then goes to 4/4 and has a wonderful feel and flow as it moves through the different sections. The piece has very limited brass ranges with some optional octave writing in the trumpet 1 part. There is solo space for alto saxophone, trumpet, piano and drums. This big band arrangement was adapted by Bob Curnow from the original small band version as recorded on Oliver Nelson Plays Michelle (Impulse). 5-4-4-4.

A really delightful samba! 339 measures of pure delight! Features soprano sax and flugelhorn, as well as drums and bass. This is one your band will want to play and play and play..... the samba we've all been waiting for! Soprano sax doubles on alto parts. 5-4-4-4.

Exactly as recorded on the Kenton / Capitol Retrospective CD (and the original Milestones LP). This was Stan's first long version of the theme Artistry in Rhythm and is a great piece to program. Features piano and tenor saxophone solos. A classic, wild and bright chart which should be a part of any Kenton Tribute concert. 5-5-5-4.

This beautiful arrangement of the lovely popular Michel Legrand ballad was originally scored for the Tonight Show Band with Doc Severinsen. It is an alto saxophone feature throughout. The entire solo is written out (with changes provided to allow for improvisation). The accompanying band parts are very simple to play, making this chart accessible to most middle school bands. 5-4-4-4.

Recorded on the A View From the Side CD by the Bill Holman Band, this chart is a slow blues, with Willis taking a VERY different approach. There are doubles in all the saxophone parts, group improvisation, solo for trumpet, piano and tenor saxophone. Lots of double-time swing feel which is so refreshing. 5-4-4-4.

Ernie Wilkins has created a swinging version of this great classic tune. Features alto sax, trumpet, piano and trombone solos. There is a wonderful Basie-ish shout chorus, with very neat dynamic variations. Very playable by most bands. 5-4-4-4.
