This Concerto en Ut mineur for cello and piano was first published in 1947 by Editions Salabert, being attributed to Johann Christian Bach with harmonization by Henri Casadesus. Certain musicological studies after its publication proved that the Concerto should not have been attributed to Johann Christian Bach after all, as it had actually been composed 'in the style of Bach? some two centuries later. Nevertheless, the Concerto has been a success and is today often performed and studied closely. This edition of the Concerto is a new version of the original score enriched with an introduction and history in French, English and Italian. / Violoncelle Et Piano

Par BRUCH MAX. Aside from his popular Violin Concerto no. 1, “ Kol Nidrei ” numbers among Max Bruch ’s most famous compositions. The melancholy “Adagio after Hebrew melodies” was written in 1880 for the cellist Robert Hausmann. It treats two old Jewish songs whose extraordinary beauty proved deeply moving to the Protestant Bruch, by his own admission. The tenor Cello sound is the ideal medium for the voice of a Jewish cantor, and thus to this day “ Kol Nidrei ” offers every cellist a wonderful opportunity to make the instrument “sing”. In this text, based on the first edition of 1881, “ Kol Nidrei ” appears for the first time in an Urtextedition substantiated by scholarly research, for which not just the musical sources, but also numerous letters and documents from the Max Bruch Archive were consulted. La violoncelliste française Lise Christiani donna en octobre 1845 plusieurs concerts à Leipzig; elle y rencontra Mendelssohn et passa probablement commande de la composition de cette pièce charmante. Il s?agit de la seule «Romance sans paroles» que Mendelssohn n?a pas écrite pour piano seul mais pour deux instruments.
