Arrangement für Cello und Klavier/ for Cello and Piano-Max Reger's well-known Romance in G major WoO II/10 was written as a supplement for the Neue Musik-Zeitung which was the recipient of works – particularly songs and piano pieces – by Reger in the years 1900 and 1901. Reger himself designated his Romance shortly after its publication as 'an occasional piece of the worst kind – for me!' The work was published in 1910 both in its original scoring for violin (and piano) as well as in its first arrangements for other solo instruments.

Virgil Thomson was and still is renowned for his musical 'portraits' of friends and famous personalities of the day. These four have been transcribed for Cello and Piano and include the poet Lise Deharme designer Max Kahn the great Pablo Picasso and Thomson's friend Flavie Alvarez de Toledo.

This is a deeply felt concerted work for cello and orchestra. It is in a moderate twentieth century style modal rather than chromatic a tonal work with a mood that is elegiac and dramatic. The Kaddish is a prayerordinarily given during Jewish services for the dead though it never mentions Death. There are traditional melodies and Hebrew cantillation associated with the text but Diamond did not use any of these nor indeed anyparticular Jewish music. The themes he says are his own concept. In describing the form and style of the music Diamond relates the Kaddish to others of his compositions that have some connection to ritual neither theater musicnor abstract music.The music is primarily melodic. Its modal quality suggests the work's Jewish connection but the actual mode is not specifically Jewish in sound. The work rises to a serious and affirmative climaxtowards its end then subsides.

Un ouvrage de plus concernant les gammes ? Tout d'abord et pour les gammes simples, nous avons délibérémenl adopté des doigtés pouvant être utilisés dans tous les styles. Il en existe d'autres bien sûr mais nous avons privilégié l'efficacité. Ensuite, rendons à César ce qui lui revíent : le travail des doubles cordes en quartes nous avait été suggéré à l'époque de nos études par Anner Bijlsma ; il forme remarquablemenl l'oreille. Certains doigtés de tierces ont été empruntés à Paul Tortelier car épargnant beaucoup les tendons, particulièrement ceux des petites mains. Nous avons quant à nous, mené une réflexion sur les arpèges en utilisant au maximum les positions hautes sur chacune des cordes et pas seulemenl sur la chanterelle comme habituellement. ll nous semble que cela complète à la fois les concertos de Romberg et les études de Popper et que cela développe une aisance appréciable. Nous n'avons en revanche pas voulu une approche systématiquement exhaustive ole toutes les tonalilés car, pour certaines, les arpèges auraient comportés trop de bb ou ##. Vous ne trouverez pas la gamme de Dob maieur par exemple ! Aussi, pour plus de lisibililé, lorsque la tonalité apporte trop de bécarres dans l'écriture, nous avons préféré supprimer l'armure et noter les altérations nécessaires. Enfin, nous laissons le soin à nos collègues de faire travailler ces gammes comme ils l'entendent : coups d'archet, rylhmes... Laissons-nous, à chacun, un peu de fantaisie et d'imagination !
