“Ecco mormorar l'onde” is a new setting of the 16th-century poem by Torquato Tasso, first made famous in a setting by Monteverdi. This new piece is an installment in Brian Sidders's long-term project of re-setting the texts of historic choral works. Layered entrances and lively mixed-meter rhythms paint a picture for the listener of waves and flora moving in the breeze. A perfect choice for advanced ensembles who want a fresh take on a classic choral text!

Come and See is an invitation for each of us to experience Jesus as He enters Jerusalem; to witness His betrayal by a friend; to endure with Him the suffering and death of a sinless Savior; and finally to behold His empty tomb. Through the eyes of a blind beggar, we're taken through these events and more by way of a powerful and moving dramatic script, and energetic choral arrangements carefully designed for smaller choirs by two-time Dove Award winning writers, Dennis and Nan Allen. With a run time of 36 minutes, this dramatic musical includes popular worship songs Come and See and Sing to the King and the classic Wayne Watson song Friend of a Wounded Heart. Also included is a beautiful arrangement of the hymn I Saw the Cross and a new tune to the great hymn text Beneath the Cross of Jesus. Musically, this work is highlighted by settings that any choir can comfortably attain. Several opportunities for congregational involvement are included. For the full drama version, a small cast is required, and Nan Allen has written creative and very useful production notes to assist in both staging and costuming. The narrator version requires two narrators and is equally moving. This Easter, come and see what Jesus did for you.

Composer's Notes When I met Kelsey Rose in Oxford in St. Stephen’s House chapel over the summer of 2017, we had both just attended a very moving candlelit concert by Westminster Williamson Voices, featuring my setting of “Tenebrae lumini.†I was delighted to be asked to write a piece for compline in Princeton University Chapel, celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Anglican/Episcopal chaplaincy at Princeton University. “Aurora†is the result of that meeting. Composing by commission often throws up some interesting challenges. The piece had to fit both as an accompanying piece to the plainchant of compline, whilst simultaneously being a celebratory anthem. I was instantly drawn back to the poetry and hymns of St. Ambrose of Milan, particularly “Aurora iam spargit polum.†Fragments of chant (both real and imagined) are used to create the powerful imagery of the descending golden light of dawn. The piece reaches its climax with the plea for the despair of night to “vanish,†which it then does, leaving the sopranos alone on a high G.

Singers and audiences will be delighted to discover the work of little-known soldier-poet Lieutenant Joseph Courtney RAMC, whose verse drew from the composer a 14-minute setting in which Elgarian melancholy and passionate denunciation are transformed into a message of hope. The striking choral writing will instantly touch you in this succinct and moving interpretation of Virga Jesse Floruit (The rod of Jesse has blossomed) by Kentucky composer Brett Ballard. The haunting opening choral statement in E-minor seamlessly leads to an unmetered unison chant section in G mixolydian mode. An ingenious two-subject canon follows in a musical dialogue between the higher voices and the lower voices in B-flat minor. The two choral closing statements bring us back to the original tonality and musically paint the phrase ima summis . . . (reconciling in himself the lowest with the highest). The work concludes as calmly as it began. Quite a journey in thirty measures!
