Sarah Quartel's Snow Angel for SSAA solo Cello Djembe and Piano. Already a firm favourite with choirs across the world Snow Angel is an evocative five-movement choral work that explores themes of love rebirth and beauty through the eyes of children and the heavenly army of angels that watch over them yearning to make a difference to their lives. The work may be performed with narration in which three angels present their perspectives on their earthly charges. Sarah Quartel weaves a haunting and poignant Cello line throughout the work and a vibrant part for Djembe in movement four 'Sweet child' carriesthe listener from the ethereal and mystical realm the work predominantly inhabits into an emphatic anthem with a distinctly African feel. The musical language is emotive and pictorial allowing performers to play an active role in the storytelling. Snow Angel is also available in a version for SATB.

The inspiring journey of the three kings to Bethlehem is beautifully told through words and music in Peter Maxwell Davies' wonderful setting of George Mackay Brown's text. The piece is arranged for SSAA voices a cappella but aPiano part is provided for rehearsal purposes.

Cristian Grases launches his new Latin American and Caribbean Choral Series with this enchanting song of musical mischief that describes a scene in the life of Tottoyo a boy that likes playing outside until the late hours. Energetic entertaining and playful the piece is voiced for treble voices and works for both young and mature choirs. Simple gestures assigned in the music add marvelously to the presentation.

The Waiting Sky by Oliver Tarney for SSAA unaccompanied.Oliver Tarney has re-worked his popular unaccompanied minature The Waiting Sky for upper voices. The evocative text by Lucia Quinault depicts a rural winter scene and is skilfully set to music by Oliver Tarney to create a lucidly reflective piece. There is a sense in both the text and the music of waiting for the 'shining star' and while it would make a beautiful addition to a concert programme at other times of the year the setting is perfect as a reflective carol for Advent anticipating the wonder of the birth of Christ.

Based on a cantillation melody collected by the composer's father in the 1920s this short work suggests ancient origins. The tonality reflects very little of the modes we often associate with oriental or Middle Eastern music. Themelismas are restrained and discreet and the prevailing atmosphere of the music is quietly loving pure and exalted.

Par MCCARTHY JAMES. The words of Peaceful was the Night are taken from John Milton?s ode On the Morning of Christ?s Nativity, written in 1629. Milton describes the universe halting in utter stillness at the moment of Christ?s appearing on the earth. (As the poet wrote: ?His reign of peace upon the Earth began. ?) In James McCarthy?s carol, the voices play a dual role, as narrator, and by evoking the atmosphere of a singular moment of frozen time. Songs Of Sanctuary is an extended choral-type work based on the European classical tradition but where the vocal sound is more akin to 'ethnic' or 'world' music. The idea was to have some thematic unity within the work as a whole rather than a collection of disparate pieces in song form. This vocal score which includes the optional recorder part in the score is primarily intended for rehearsal use. However it is possible to make a convincing performance with voices and piano.

This work was commissioned by DOM in association with Canty who gave the first performance in York Minster on 23rd October 2008.This brief motet for four voices and renaissance bray harp was written in the South of France inFebruary 2007. It is a setting of two Hadiths or sayings attributed to the Prophet Mohammed. The words convey something of the great mystery of the Absolute and the Beautiful One who is immanent and yet hidden. The music shouldbe performed with great purity in a resonant acoustic. If a renaissance bray harp is not available the harp part may be played on a contemporary instrument. I was a Hidden Treasure; And I longed to be known; So Icreated the world.God is a Beautiful Being And He loves Beauty.

(Shiru L'Adonai)-Based on a biblical text ?And Miriam Sang? is a song of celebration following Israel's deliverance from Egypt through the Red Sea. It begins in a slow chant-like manner and soon shifts to an up-tempo dance-like mood. Although the melodies are original they incorporate the augmented second interval and melodic formulas common to Hasidic and some Middle-Eastern music. The use of Hebrew text tambourine and drums add to the authentic feel.
