As explained by Schutz in the foreword he published withthe collection all parts of the motets can be performed vocally and/or instrumentally.This practice common in Schutz?s time has been incorporated into Bärenreiter?s new publication. The edition includes the twelve five-part motets at original pitch with Basso Continuo. In addition instrumental parts for String and Wind instruments can be purchased. These parts which include the text serve to support and complement the choral sound ?colla parte?. To enable varying tone-colour possibilities instrumental parts are available in different transpositions.Of great significance is the detailed foreword on performance practice by Manfred Cordes.Manfred Cordes is a specialist for the music of the 16th and early 17th centuries. Les Troyens - The Trojans: Opera in 5 Acts Berlioz composed Les Troyens towards the end of his life drawing on Virgil?s epic poem The Aeneid which he had admired since his childhood. In his Memoirs he recounts how his father a country doctor read Virgil to him and how the story of Dido?s tragic fate reduced him to tears which he tried hard to conceal. The score was finished in April 1858 but he was unable to persuade the Paris Opera to mount it (his earlier opera Benvenuto Cellini had been a failure there in 1838) and eventually he agreed to allow the last three acts to be performed under the title Les Troyens à Carthage. This took placeat the Théâtre-lyrique an enterprising but ill-equipped theatre in November 1863 and although it was much admired there were no more performances before Berlioz?s death in 1869. In the history of French music Les Troyens stand out as a grand opera that avoided the shallow glamour of Meyerbeer and Halévy but therefore paid the price of long neglect. In our own time the opera has finally come to be seen as one of the greatest operas of the 19th century. It was written in the style of Medelssohn’s Elijah which had premiered at the same festivaltwenty years earlier. The chorus Abide With Me is a setting of the poem by Henry Francis Lyte for SATB choir and Piano accompaniment. Sir William Sterndale Bennett (1816-1875) was anEnglish composer pianist and conductor. He entered the Royal Academy of Music studying Violin Piano and composition. He spent time in Germany with Mendelsohn and Schumann before becoming Professor of Music at the Universityof Cambridge and later Principal of the RAM.

Matyas Seiber (1905-1960) was a Hungarian composer who lived and worked in the UK from 1935 onwards. He was born in Budapest and studied with Kodaly and toured the country to collect folk songs. Some ofthese were later published in 1949 as Three Hungarian Folk Songs with English words by A. L. Lloyd (1908-1982) a singer musicologist and self-styled ?Folklorist?.Three Hungarian FolkSongs have been arranged for TTBB Male Voice Choir by the composer Trevor Widdicombe.
