This vocal score has been arranged for upper voices by Cilla Dennis anduses a piano accompaniment in place of the orchestra.

On 20 Dec 1830 Mendelssohn wrote to his parents: 'The French nuns sing there and it is wonderfully lovely. ... Now one should know one more thing: that one is not allowed to see the singers. Therefore I have come to an unusual decision: I will compose something for their voices which I rememer exactly...'

Mendelssohn's final chorus from Psalm 95 has been excerpted and arranged for SAB voices by scholar Robert S. Hines. The three parts sing easily in counterpoint and the resulting harmonies are lovely. Excellent for church or concert.

Mendelssohn wrote the motet Hear My Prayer and O For The Wings Of A Dove in Germany in 1844 and premiered it the next year in London. William Bartholomew wrote the English lyrics as well as collaborating with the composer on his oratorio Elijah.O ForTthe Wings Of A Dove is frequently performed as a separate work and was made famous in the UK through a 1927 recording. The work was originally written for SATB Chorus and Organ or Orchestra and is here rendered for Soprano solo and Voices SSA with Piano or Organ.
