Paul Mealor's If Ye Love Me for upper Voices and Organ. Commissioned by St Marylebone Parish Church in memory of Miss Joie Macauley the 900th Anniversary of the parish and the 200th Anniversary of the present parish church; first performed at the parish church by the Choir of St Marylebone Parish Church on 23rd July 2017. 'This is simple beautiful and outstandingly effective. The simple melody is sung unison throughout except for a single two-part chord at the climax with a top G in the upper part (otherwise the top note is E). The organ is rooted with G and C pedal semibreves alternating and the whole piece forms ahuge arc from pianissimo to fortissimo and back to pianissimo.'  - ‘Sunday by Sunday’ Paul Mealor's upper voice setting of the familiar words If ye love me. It offers a gentle unison melody over held chords on the organ building to a climax on the words 'may abide with you' - the emphasis on the pronoun marking out a difference from most other settings. Men sangene blev hurtigt populære og allerede i de første år efter udgivelsen blev deen fast del af mange kors julerepertoire både herhjemme og i Skandinavien (i en svensk-sproget udgave) - ja helt til USA kom de (i en engelsk-sproget udgave).Tæt på 25 års jubilæet er det nu tid til en revideret ny-udgivelse.Selve sangene er der ikke lavet om på - men storformen er ændret således at værket nu fremstår som et lille juleoratorium med recitationer og orgel-mellemspil. En enkel ny sats er kommet til: Lovsangen Stjerner og vinde og skyer og de instrumentale mellemspil (soli for fløjte/sax piano eller bas) er udbygget på forskellig måde. Normalt er det instrumenterne der akkompagnerer koret. Men i de instrumentale mellemspil er rollerne byttet om. Nu er det koret der med riffs scatsang og forskellige akkordbaserede figurer 'akkompagnerer' de improviserende solister.Fløjten vil - med passende oktaveringer - kunne erstattes af saxofon (sopran og/eller alt).
