Set for cantor, assembly, and 2-part choir, this psalm for Mass at Midnight sparkles with a bell-like quality. The lovely flute obbligato can be underscored by optional string quartet. The composer cleverly yokes this lilting, singable refrain with Psalm 118 for the Easter responsorial psalm published separately(G-6543).

While the tune is based on a traditional Czech carol, this is one of Rory Cooney’s most powerful original texts. The piece would make a stunning Communion meditation, evoking images of joy at the infant Savior’s birth, while foreshadowing his sacrifice so that we might eat of the Living Bread. The piano provides support for the choral parts, but the piece may be sung a cappella, or, if circumstances allow, the use of the optional string quartet will add to the warmth expressed in the words and harmony of the singers. String Quartet or Keyboard accompaniment.
