Lent & Easter Musical Not 'Who Was Jesus?' but 'Who Is Jesus?' The question is asked in the present tense because it's Christ's interaction with our lives in the here and now that is the focus of this 30 minute Tenebrae service. The events of Holy Week are presented through enticing arrangements of familiar hymns and spirituals plus narration, culminating with the crucifixion story in a moving rendition of 'O Sacred Head, Now Wounded. ' There are opportunities to include vocal solos, as well as, congregational singing. The accompaniment can be provided by piano, CD track, or a chamber ensemble of five instruments. A further option is an organ part that can work with just piano or can be added to the chamber instruments. Finally, there are instructions for lighting and extinguishing seven candles ending in darkness with all softly singing of the first verse of 'Fairest Lord Jesus. 'Instrumental Parts: Conductor's Score, Organ, Flute, Oboe, Violin,Cello and Horn in F.

Conveying the dreamlike mood of the William Blake poem that begins, â??Sweet dreams, sleep, sleep happy child, this anthem by David Hurd features sumptuous, jazz-inflected harmonies that gently sway beneath expressive choral writing. The piece was originally published in 1994 for SATB choir with organ. In this new edition, Hurd has added a C instrument part as well as new accompaniment option for flute, oboe, horn, violin I and II, viola, cello, and bass.

In honor of the 200th anniversary of St. Rose Philippine Duschene’s arrival in New Orleans, Michael Joncas was commissioned to write a new mass setting by the Religious of the Sacred Heart. This edition is scored for SATB voices and features instrumental parts for complete symphony orchestra. Parts may be used according to the players available in your circumstance. The mass includes optional phrases in French and Potawatomi honoring the American saint’s heritage and ministry. The mass may be sung in unison, reserving the choral and instrumental parts for holy days. While some contemporary musical settings of the “Glory to God†seem burdensome and even awkward, Joncas’s melody is absolutely delightful. The singable through-composed Gloria boasts a magnificent and manageable modulation that contributes to the triumphant nature of the piece.
